Chapter 7 - The Sovereign QueenThe sun was dipping below the horizon, casting long, golden shadows across the stone courtyard of my family’s upstate estate. The air smelled of damp earth, blooming jasmine, and woodsmoke drifting from the massive stone fireplace inside the main dining hall.

Inside, the long mahogany table was set with heirloom silver, crystal glassware, and candles that flickered softly against the dark wood paneling. My father sat at the head of the table, flanked by Luca DeSantis and a handful of trusted advisors who had protected our family through decades of history.
When I walked through the double doors, the conversations around the table paused for a fraction of a second. Not out of fear, but out of deep, abiding respect.
My father stood up from his chair, walked around the table, and pulled out my seat for me with old-world courtliness.
"To resilience," my father said, raising his glass of Barolo as everyone at the table followed suit. "To a daughter who did not need to raise her voice to make the world tremble."
I looked around the table at the men and women who formed the bedrock of my life—people who valued loyalty, strength, and integrity above all else. I raised my glass, my hand steady, my posture unyielding.
"To new beginnings," I said clearly, looking straight into my father’s proud eyes. "And to never looking back."

We drank. The room erupted into warm laughter and animated conversation, the heavy shadows of the past completely burned away by the bright, unyielding light of the present.
