Chapter 5 - The UnravelingTwo months later, autumn had descended upon Boston, turning the trees along the Charles River into brilliant shades of amber and crimson.

For Austin Weaver, however, the world was entirely gray.
The fallout from the asset freeze and subsequent bar investigation had obliterated his life. Weaver Law Partners had formally voted to expel him from the partnership, stripping him of his equity shares to pay off outstanding debts and legal judgments. The Back Bay brownstone had been placed into receivership to satisfy court-ordered alimony prepayments and legal fees. Chloe, the junior associate who had been the catalyst for his ruin, had quietly resigned from the firm and moved to Chicago the moment his credit cards were permanently declined.
Austin was forced to move into a tiny, cramped studio apartment above a noisy dry cleaner's in South Boston—a place where the radiator hissed violently and the floorboards groaned with every step.
He had lost his status, his wealth, his reputation, and his career. But worst of all, he had lost the one person who had genuinely loved him for who he was, trading a loyal, brilliant partner for a fleeting, shallow distraction.

He had burned it all down for nothing.
