Chapter 4 - The Corporate BleedBack in Manhattan, the fallout was catastrophic.

By Monday morning, the story of the abandoned wedding was the front-page headline of every major financial and tabloid publication in the country. “The Great Drake Disgrace,” screamed the New York Post, complete with photographs of Ethan looking pale and desperate outside the Grand Monroe Hotel.
More damaging than the social humiliation, however, was the corporate execution that followed.
Inside the sleek glass-walled boardroom of Drake Capital, Harrison Drake slammed his fist onto the mahogany table so hard the water glasses rattled.
“Explain to me how our stock dropped twelve percent in four hours!” Harrison roared at his chief financial officer.
The CFO, sweating profusely, pushed his glasses up his nose. “Sir... it’s not just the bad press. Institutional investors are pulling out. The Vanguard Group and BlackRock subsidiaries are executing emergency liquidations of our municipal bond portfolios.”
“On whose authority?” Ethan demanded, pacing the length of the room, his eyes bloodshot and frantic. He hadn't slept in forty-eight hours. Every attempt to contact Ava had hit a dead wall; her apartment was empty, her bank accounts had been unlinked from his joint lines, and her father’s estate lawyers had issued a strict restraining order against any harassment.
“We don’t know,” the CFO stammered. “The withdrawal requests came through encrypted offshore trusts managed by Vance & Sterling International—the primary infrastructure holding firm owned by...”
He stopped, swallowing hard.
“Owned by whom?” Harrison barked.
“By the Montgomery family trust,” the CFO whispered.
Ethan froze. The room seemed to tilt sideways.
For three years, Ethan had believed Ava Montgomery was simply the daughter of a retired academic consultant with modest old-money connections. He had never bothered to look deeper because her family lived quietly in Boston, detached from the frantic flash of Wall Street.

He didn't know that Ava’s grandfather was Jonathan Montgomery—the reclusive industrialist who owned half the freight rail networks, shipping ports, and municipal energy grids on the East Coast. Ava wasn't just a society bride; she was the sole operational heir to a multi-billion-dollar infrastructure dynasty.
And she had just declared total war on Drake Capital.
