Chapter 7 - The Crown and the CradleSix months later.

The autumn air over Lake Michigan was crisp and golden, painting the Gold Coast estate in brilliant shades of amber and red.

Inside the newly renovated nursery—painted in soft warm greys and ivories, completely devoid of mafia shadows or cold minimalist furniture—sunlight poured through the wide windows.

I sat in a comfortable rocking chair, cradling a sleeping newborn boy wrapped in a soft cashmere blanket. His tiny chest rose and fell in perfect rhythm, and he had his father’s shock of dark hair.

The door opened quietly.

Dominic walked in, having just returned from a corporate board meeting. He had completely restructured Montenegro-Russo Holdings into legitimate real estate, green energy, and international shipping logistics, stepping back from the shadows of the syndicate entirely.

He stopped beside the rocking chair, loosening his tie, looking down at his son with an expression of such pure, defenseless devotion that it still occasionally took my breath away.

“Is he asleep?” Dominic whispered, crouching down beside the chair.

“Like an angel,” I smiled softly, shifting the baby so Dominic could see his face clearly.

Dominic gently brushed his finger against the baby’s tiny cheek. A soft, genuine smile spread across his face—the smile of a man who had fought a war against the entire world and won every prize that mattered.

“What should we name him?” Dominic asked, looking up from his son to me.

“Leo,” I said softly. “Leo Russo.”

“Leo,” Dominic repeated, testing the weight and beauty of the name on his tongue. He leaned up, pressing a tender kiss to my lips, then kissing the top of our son’s head.

The café where Derek had sneered at my weight felt like a lifetime ago—a distant, trivial nightmare from another dimension. Standing here in the warmth and sunlight of a home built on fierce, unyielding love, I knew that the greatest power in the world wasn't fear, wealth, or dominance.

It was the family we built together.
