Chapter 5 - The Trap at the GalaThe final showdown didn't happen in a dark alley or a smoky warehouse; it happened under the glittering chandeliers of the annual New York City Police Foundation Gala at the Plaza Hotel.

Victor Vance arrived believing he held all the cards. He had leaked rumors to the financial press that Blackwell Enterprises was facing imminent federal collapse due to union corruption at Port Newark. He walked into the ballroom with a self-satisfied smirk, wearing his finest tuxedo, expecting to watch Roman Blackwell fall from grace.
Roman and Elena entered ten minutes later.
They didn't look like a failing dynasty. They looked like rulers. Elena wore a midnight-blue velvet gown that swept the floor, her head held high, standing so close to Roman that their shoulders brushed with every step.
Vance intercepted them near the champagne fountain, his eyes sharp and mocking. "Brave of you to show up tonight, Blackwell. Word on Wall Street is your shipping containers are currently being searched by federal agents. Hope your bride enjoys a lifestyle upgrade to a studio apartment."
Roman didn't raise his voice. He took a sip of his champagne, his eyes cold as winter ice. "You should check your phone, Vance. Markets open early tomorrow, and your real estate stocks are currently taking a very steep dive."
At that exact moment, the large screens flanking the ballroom stage—normally reserved for charity donation tallies—flickered. The live broadcast of financial news flashed breaking headlines: FEDERAL INDICTMENT ISSUED FOR VANCE HOLDINGS; ASSETS FROZEN AMID FRAUD INVESTIGATION.
Vance’s face lost all color. He pulled out his phone, his hands shaking violently as notifications flooded his screen. "This... this is impossible! Who authorized—"
"I did," a calm voice echoed behind him.
Federal marshals, accompanied by state prosecutors, stepped out from the perimeter of the ballroom, walking directly toward Vance.

"Victor Vance, you're under arrest for securities fraud, racketeering, and conspiracy," the lead marshal stated, snapping steel handcuffs onto Vance’s wrists before he could utter another word. As Vance was dragged past the stunned crowd of elites, he shot one last venomous glare at Elena.
Elena simply smiled, lifting her champagne glass in a silent toast.
