Chapter 6 - The New DynastyThe press conference in the grand auditorium of Mercer Global Capital was the most heavily attended corporate event in New York history. Hundreds of journalists, photographers, and financial analysts packed the room, their cameras clicking in a relentless, blinding rhythm of flashes.

When I walked out onto the stage, dressed in an ivory silk suit that radiated absolute power and grace, the chaotic murmur of the room instantly died down into a reverent hush.
Seated in the front row were a few familiar faces—former socialites and business partners who had once laughed at Richard's twenty-dollar auction joke. Now, they sat in absolute terror, their eyes glued to the floor, terrified to make eye contact with the woman they had once dismissed as a nonentity.
I stepped up to the podium, resting my hands lightly on the mahogany surface, looking out over the sea of cameras and faces.
"Good morning," my voice rang out through the auditorium speakers, clear, steady, and commanding.
"Six days ago, I was introduced to this city as a quiet, useless wife who could be auctioned off for spare change to amuse a room full of people who mistook cruelty for wit. My name was given as Margaret Hale. My life was defined by the cage others built around me."
A pin could have dropped in the auditorium; the silence was absolute.
"Today, I stand before you as Rebecca Mercer. The rightful heir to this enterprise, the sole Chairperson and CEO of the newly unified Mercer-Vance Group, and a woman who has reclaimed every single piece of her history from the ashes of fraud and deceit."
Flashes erupted like lightning storms across the room, capturing every word, every expression, every nuance of the transformation.
"To those who built their fortunes on the theft of others' lives, and to those who laughed when the powerful mocked the powerless: let this be your notice. The era of quiet endurance is over. From this day forward, we do not tolerate exploitation, we do not trade in human dignity, and we never, ever underestimate the person standing quietly in the background."
I paused, letting the weight of my words settle over the entire room like an iron decree.
"Thank you."

As I turned away from the podium amidst a deafening roar of applause and camera shutters, I didn't look back at the frightened faces in the front row. I walked straight toward the wings, where Jonathan and Marcus were waiting with open arms and proud smiles.
The nightmare of Margaret Hale was dead. The reign of Rebecca Mercer had officially begun.
