Chapter 6 - The Final Reckoning

Back at the Moretti estate, the storm had broken, leaving behind a clear, star-filled night sky over the Hudson Valley.
In the subterranean security vault—the very same reinforced limestone chamber where traitors and enemies of the syndicate met their final end—Julian Vance was tied securely to a heavy wooden chair, bruised, battered, and shaking with absolute terror.
The heavy steel door swung open, and Dante walked in, followed by Viktor and me. I wore a tailored black coat, my wrists bearing faint red friction burns from the zip-ties, but my posture was unyielding.
Dante stopped a few feet away from Julian, looking down at the pathetic wreck of a man who had tried to steal his empire and destroy the woman he loved.
"Please, Dante—have mercy!" Julian sobbed hysterically, tears streaming down his bruised face. "I was desperate! Marcus made me do it! Please don't kill me!"
"Kill you?" Dante repeated softly, a cold, humorless smile touching his lips. "Killing you would be far too kind, Julian. You tried to take everything I built. And worse... you touched what is mine."
Dante turned his head, looking toward me. "Do you want to handle this, Cara? Or shall I?"
I stepped forward, my heels clicking sharply against the cold concrete floor. I stopped right in front of Julian, looking down at the man whose greed and cowardice had nearly cost me my life.
"I don't need to kill him, Dante," I said quietly, my voice ringing clearly off the stone walls. "Prisoners like Julian don't belong in the ground. They belong in a cage where the world can forget they ever existed."
I turned to Viktor. "Make sure the federal marshals receive the complete encrypted flight logs, offshore bank transfers, and audio recordings of tonight's kidnapping attempt within the hour. Ensure that he is transferred to a maximum-security federal penitentiary in solitary confinement, with zero communication privileges for the rest of his natural life."
Viktor nodded, a grim, satisfied smirk on his face. "Consider it done, Ms. Fields."
Julian let out a desperate, choked wail as Viktor and the guards hauled him out of the vault, dragging his chair across the concrete floor until the heavy steel door slammed shut, cutting off his screams forever.
Dante stepped up beside me, slipping his warm arm around my waist, pulling me gently against his side.
"You handled that like a true queen," Dante whispered, pressing a soft kiss to my temple.

"I learned from the best," I replied, leaning my head against his shoulder. "Though I think I'm officially ready to retire from the mafia takedown business. My resume is getting a bit chaotic."
Dante laughed—a rich, genuine sound that echoed warmly off the stone walls. "Retirement approved. Tomorrow, we go back to normal life. Just you, me, and the architectural blueprints."
