Chapter 7 - Epilogue - The Joy of FreedomOne year later.

The afternoon sun poured over the sprawling, lush green lawn of our new estate. The house was bright, filled with massive windows, open spaces, and absolutely no dark corners.

I sat on a picnic blanket under the shade of a massive oak tree, watching one-year-old Maya take her first clumsy, beautiful steps across the soft grass. She giggled, her arms outstretched as she waddled toward Sarah, who was sitting a few feet away with a camera.

"Come here, little bug!" Sarah laughed, catching Maya as she tumbled into her arms.

I smiled, taking a sip of my iced tea. My foot had completely healed. There was a faint, silvery scar along my ankle, but I didn't hide it anymore. It wasn't a mark of shame; it was a battle scar. It was the proof that I had walked through hell and stepped out on the other side.

Liam was serving a twenty-year sentence in a maximum-security prison. Eleanor was in a state penitentiary, stripped of her wealth and working in the prison laundry. They were ghosts, irrelevant and forgotten.

I had taken the Vance fortune and started the Iron & Bone Foundation, a heavily funded charity dedicated to providing legal, financial, and physical protection for pregnant women fleeing domestic abuse. We had already saved over a hundred women in the first year alone.

Maya babbled happily, letting go of Sarah and turning her sights back to me. She took one step, then another, her tiny feet pressing firmly into the earth.

She reached my lap and threw her little arms around my neck, burying her face in my shoulder.

I wrapped my arms tightly around my daughter, closing my eyes and breathing in the sweet scent of baby shampoo and fresh air. I listened to the birds singing in the trees and the gentle rustle of the wind.

There was no fear left in my heart. No hesitation. No measuring my words or looking over my shoulder.

There was only peace. There was only love.

I looked up at the vast, limitless blue sky, holding my daughter close to my chest, and I knew with absolute certainty that we were finally, completely, and eternally free.
