Chapter 7 - Dawn and DeliveranceThe flashbang grenade went off before Elliot could blink.

A blinding white light swallowed the room, accompanied by a deafening roar that rattled the windows. But instead of the assassin's bullet, a second crash echoed from the hallway—heavy bodies colliding, shouts in Italian, and the sharp crack of a scuffle.

Elliot blinked away the spots dancing in his vision and lunged forward through the drifting smoke. In the hallway, two men in custom charcoal suits—men who looked remarkably like Lorenzo Vitale's private security detail—had pinned the assassin to the floor, disarming him in seconds.

A tall, broad-shouldered figure stepped out of the haze, adjusting the cuffs of his tailored jacket. Lorenzo Vitale looked around the chaotic bedroom with clinical calm, his sharp eyes finally landing on Elliot and Naomi.

"You really know how to pick your battlegrounds, amico," Lorenzo said, his voice deep and smooth.

Elliot stared at him, bewildered. "Lorenzo? What are you doing here?"

"Your ex-wife’s lawyer is a very thorough man," Lorenzo said, offering a faint, ironic smile. "He reached out to my network in Europe when he realized your family was tracking the Zurich deposit box. I happen to have a vested interest in keeping people who threaten children out of commission." He glanced at Naomi, giving her a respectful nod, then at little Bella, who was safely buried in her mother's shoulder.

Three days later, the headlines across the financial world shook New York and Boston to their foundations.

The Zurich safety deposit box had been opened. The documents detailing the fifty-year-old corporate fraud were handed over to federal prosecutors, triggering an immediate sweeping investigation into the Rhodes Foundation. Richard Rhodes was taken into federal custody before he could board a private jet to Zurich, his impenetrable empire crumbling under the weight of undeniable proof.

In a quiet sunlit café overlooking the Hudson River, the morning air was crisp and clean.

Elliot sat at an outdoor table, sipping black coffee, when tiny footsteps pattered across the pavement.

"Ellie!"

He looked down just in time to catch a laughing toddler as she leaped into his lap, holding out a worn stuffed elephant.

Naomi walked up behind her, carrying two fresh pastries, a soft, genuine smile touching her lips—free of fear, free of shadows. She slid into the seat across from him, the morning sun catching her auburn hair.

"You look like a man who just lost a billion dollars," Naomi teased gently.

Elliot wrapped one arm securely around Bella while reaching across the table to interlace his fingers with Naomi’s. The palm was rougher than it used to be, earned through years of hard work and resilience, but it felt like the only real thing in the world.

"I lost a legacy built on lies," Elliot smiled, leaning back as the city skyline stretched out before them in the golden morning light. "And I finally found everything I was ever supposed to keep."
