Chapter 7 - Unbroken and Forever HomeOne year after the night at the Bellmont Grand, the grand ballroom of the Drake Hotel downtown was illuminated by hundreds of soft, twinkling chandeliers for the annual Hale Memorial Pediatric Gala.

Over three hundred prominent medical leaders, city officials, legal directors, and close friends packed the room, celebrating the launch of a new ten-million-dollar pediatric wing funded by our family foundation.
I stood near the marble stage wearing a breathtaking, floor-length emerald silk gown that caught the chandelier light like liquid gold. My hazel eyes were bright, clear, and filled with an unshakeable, sovereign confidence, holding the posture of a woman who had claimed her throne.
Five-year-old Lily sat at the primary family table wearing a matching emerald ribbon in her dark hair, happily eating chocolate cake with Maria and Sarah.
Giovanni walked up beside me wearing an immaculate black tuxedo, wrapping his broad arm securely around my waist, pulling my back flush against his chest.
He clinked his champagne glass gently against mine.
"What are you thinking about, my queen?" Giovanni whispered softly into my ear.
I looked out over the vast, sparkling ballroom stretching before us into the unbroken horizon, feeling a deep, weightless peace settle into every corner of my soul.
"I was thinking about the night at the Bellmont Grand," I answered softly, turning in his arms to press a sweet kiss against his scarred jawline. "When a dangerous stranger ordered me to pretend to be his wife."
Giovanni offered a breathtaking smile—a look of pure, eternal love that lit up his features.
"You thought you were pretending, Jessica," Giovanni promised, leaning down to press his lips softly, fiercely against mine in a deep, unhurried kiss. "And you ended up giving me my soul."
Sophia and her husband, Julian, raised their champagne glasses toward our table, their faces filled with genuine, warm pride, as the entire room applauded our victory.
I raised my glass, taking a slow sip of fine champagne, looking out over the clear, unbroken horizon of our future.
There were no one-bedroom apartments keeping me awake at night. There were no arrogant ex-husbands whispering lies in crowded halls. There were no tears swallowed in dark sections.

The lonely nurse was dead forever. The sovereign matriarch had claimed her throne.
And standing under the vast, unbroken sky, wrapped in the arms of the man who loved me, holding my daughter's future safe, I knew that my life, my heart, and my future were finally, beautifully, and forever home.
