Chapter 5 - The War on Vance LogisticsBy 8:00 AM the following morning, the financial and corporate networks of Chicago erupted into complete, high-stakes chaos.

The formal announcement of the marriage between Giovanni Fierro, CEO of Fierro Global Logistics, and Donna Jessica Hale-Fierro was published on the front page of the Chicago Business Chronicle, accompanied by a high-resolution photograph of the five-carat emerald-diamond ring.
Simultaneously, the legal team at Fierro Global executed an emergency foreclosure order on all secondary credit lines held by Vance Logistics—the firm owned by Vanessa's father, Arthur Vance.
At 2:00 PM, a black Maybach pulled up the long gravel driveway of the Vance Corporate Center downtown.
I stepped out of the vehicle wearing an immaculate navy silk pantsuit, holding my head high, flanked by Giovanni and his chief legal counsel, Marcus Sterling.
Inside the glass executive suite on the top floor, Arthur Vance, Vanessa, and Tyler sat around a mahogany conference table, surrounded by frantic accountants and trembling attorneys.
When the double glass doors were thrown open and Giovanni and I stepped inside, Tyler jumped out of his chair, his face paper-white with terror.
"Jessica...!" Tyler stammered, his voice cracking into sharp, pathetic fragments. "What... what is the meaning of this?!"
Arthur Vance stood up slowly, pointing a shaking finger at Giovanni. "Fierro! You can't freeze our commercial credit! We have twenty million dollars in cargo sitting at Pier 4!"
Giovanni didn't draw a weapon. He walked smoothly across the carpet, pulling out a chair for me at the head of the table, before standing beside my seat like an iron guardian.
"I didn't freeze your credit, Arthur," Giovanni spoke deadpan, every word dropped like an iron weight into the room. "My wife did."
I pulled a thick leather folder from my briefcase, setting it flat onto the mahogany table.
"As of nine o'clock this morning," I announced cleanly, my voice holding an unshakeable, royal authority that made Vanessa flinch, "the Fierro Trust acquired eighty-five percent of the primary debt bonds for Vance Logistics."
Arthur Vance collapsed back into his chair, the blood completely draining from his face.
"Furthermore," Marcus Sterling added smoothly, dropping certified arrest warrants onto the table, "the State Attorney General’s Office has unsealed a twenty-count federal indictment against Arthur Vance and Tyler Reed for grand embezzlement, estate fraud, and corporate tax evasion regarding the 2021 Hale Trust liquidation."
Tyler let out a high-pitched, hysterical shriek, falling onto his knees on the carpet, looking up at me with weeping, bloodshot eyes.
"Jessica! Please!" Tyler whimpered pathetically. "Tell him to stop! I'm Lily's father! You can't do this to me!"
I looked down at the man who had abandoned me five years ago—feeling no rage, no hatred, only the weightless, sovereign clarity of a woman who had conquered her past.

"You were never Lily's father, Tyler," I stated flatly, every word crisp and clear. "You were just a mistake I left behind."
Two uniformed State Police Marshals stepped into the suite, slapping heavy steel handcuffs around Tyler and Arthur Vance's wrists, dragging their groveling frames out through the glass doors in chains.
