Chapter 3 - The Purge at the Metropolitan OperaAt 10:00 AM the following morning, the grand executive boardroom atop the Metropolitan Arts Center in Lincoln Center was packed to absolute capacity.

Over forty senior arts directors, global logistics magnates, municipal officials, and high-society attorneys sat around a thirty-foot carved walnut table beneath sparkling crystal chandeliers for the annual International Arts & Logistics Ratification.

Sitting at the head of the table, wearing a tailored navy suit, holding a silver pen, was sixty-two-year-old Richard Sterling—Vanessa’s arrogant, greedy father. Beside him sat Vanessa Sterling, wearing a red silk dress, trying to act calm despite the dark circles under her eyes.

"Gentlemen!" Richard Sterling announced into the microphone, his voice dripping with condescending authority, "today we finalize the transfer of the Bennett Foundation's remaining European touring charters into Sterling Logistics—"

BOOM!

The heavy double oak doors of the executive boardroom were thrown open with a violent, hydraulic impact!

The chatter of forty corporate executives vanished into an absolute, speech-bound silence.

Walking down the central red carpet, flanked by Chief Security Director Marcus Vance and four armed federal marshals, was Nathaniel Cross.

He wore an magnificent charcoal bespoke suit, his broad frame squared, radiating an untouchable, sovereign authority that dropped the room's temperature to absolute zero.

And walking right beside him, wearing a breathtaking floor-length dark emerald silk suit that celebrated her graceful figure, her dark hair styled in a regal knot, her hazel eyes burning with absolute, sovereign victory... was me.

Vanessa Sterling dropped her silver pen.

CRASH!

The pen clattered flat against the mahogany table, rolling onto the floor as her face went from arrogant red to an ugly, paper-white shade of green.

Richard Sterling stood up so fast he knocked over his leather chair. "N-NATHANIEL...?! EMMA BENNETT?!" Richard stammered, taking two panicked steps backward against the window. "WHAT IS THIS ILL-MANNERED INTERRUPTING?! THIS IS A CLOSED EXECUTIVE RATIFICATION!"

"The ratification is over, Richard," Nathaniel announced flatly, his deep baritone carrying cleanly across the vast room, dropping the temperature to zero. "And so is your five-year fraud."

Bridget Colton stepped forward, sliding a thick stack of court-stamped legal notices flat into Richard Sterling’s trembling hands:

TOTAL ASSET SEIZURE: Federal enforcement of the Bennett Foundation Trust, transferring 100% controlling equity in the European touring routes directly to Executive Chairwoman Emma Bennett.

CRIMINAL ARREST WARRANTS: International arrest warrants served on Richard Sterling and Vanessa Sterling for First-Degree Murder (in the death of Julian Vance), Evidence Tampering, and $45 Million Wire Fraud.

IMMEDIATE TERMINATION: Permanent revocation of all board titles and operational credentials held by the Sterling family.

"THIS IS A FABRICATED LIE!" Vanessa shrieked, thrashing as two uniformed federal marshals stepped forward with heavy steel handcuffs. "SHE WAS A BROKE WAITRESS TWELVE HOURS AGO!"

"She wasn't a waitress, Vanessa," Nathaniel corrected deadpan, stepping beside my chair, wrapping his broad, warm arm around my waist, pulling me flush against his side. "She is the Matriarch of the Bennett-Cross Dynasty. And she owns your entire company."

Richard Sterling and Vanessa Sterling thrashed and wept hysterical, groveling pleas as federal marshals locked steel cuffs around their wrists behind their backs, dragging them out of Lincoln Center in total, public disgrace, while television news cameras captured their complete downfall for the morning news.
