Chapter 7 - Epilogue — Sovereign of the SkylineOne year later.

The private penthouse suite at the top of the Castalano Tower in downtown Chicago was bathed in the warm, brilliant gold of a magnificent summer sunset.

I stood by the floor-to-ceiling glass windows, wearing a soft white silk dress, looking out over the sprawling, beautiful expanse of the city skyline that stretched toward Lake Michigan. The streets below bustled with life, traffic flowed in steady ribbons of light, and the city that had once felt intimidating and cold now felt like our kingdom.

Footsteps approached softly from behind.

Vincent wrapped his arms around me from behind, resting his chin comfortably on my shoulder while his hands gently cradled my waist. Beside us, four-year-old Mia—now wearing a miniature white dress with matching yellow shoes—was happily coloring in a large drawing book spread out across the polished hardwood floor.

“Penny for your thoughts, Mrs. Castalano?” Vincent whispered, his voice rich and steady.

I leaned back against him, smiling as I placed my hands over his. “I was just thinking about the day we met. The babysitter canceling, the panic in the hallway, Mia marching into your study and mimicking your scowl.”

“A defining moment in Chicago history,” Vincent murmured, pressing a soft, lingering kiss to the side of my neck.

“It really was,” I agreed softly, turning around in his arms to look up into his face. “If someone had told me back then that the most feared man in the city would fall in love with his cleaner, I would have laughed until I cried.”

Vincent’s expression turned completely serious. He reached up, gently brushing a stray lock of hair behind my ear, his dark slate-gray eyes shining with absolute, unwavering devotion.

“I didn't fall in love with my cleaner, Elena,” Vincent said quietly, his voice ringing with profound truth. “I fell in love with the bravest, strongest woman I have ever known. The woman who taught me that true power isn't about ruling an empire in the shadows... it's about protecting the people who hold your heart in the light.”

Outside the reinforced glass, the lights of the Chicago skyline began to twinkle one by one, painting the evening sky in brilliant strokes of gold and silver.

The shadows of the past were gone, replaced by the unbreakable strength of a future we had built together.

And as Vincent pulled me tight against his chest, kissing me with all the fierce, unconditional love in the world, while Mia babbled happily over her crayons at our feet, I knew that no matter what storms ever tried to roll across the city, we were finally, completely, and eternally safe.
