Chapter 5 - The Fall of Table NineteenWhile Pine Ridge Manor slept, the fallout in the town of Jackson was nothing short of an atomic bomb.

By sunrise, the front pages of the Wyoming Gazette and financial news outlets across the state carried a headline that made every Blackridge executive choke on their morning coffee:
BLACKRIDGE ALLIANCE EMBEZZLEMENT SCANDAL: FEDERAL INVESTIGATORS SEIZE ASSETS FOLLOWING WHISTLEBLOWER DISCLOSURES.
Inside the glass-walled headquarters of Blackridge Timber and Development, absolute chaos reigned.
At 8:15 AM, federal marshals flanked by IRS criminal investigators walked through the front doors with an emergency search warrant signed by a federal judge in Denver. They didn't knock. They didn't ask for permission. They marched straight into Grant Holloway’s executive suite, seized his corporate servers, and placed him under arrest for securities fraud and grand larceny.
Two floors down, in the open-plan bullpen of the payroll department, Daniel Reeves sat at his desk staring numbly at his computer screen as financial news alerts flashed red across his monitor.
The glass partition of his office door pushed open.
Two corporate security guards—not federal agents, but Pinehaven enforcers—stepped inside without a word.
“Pack your desk, Reeves,” the lead guard said, dropping a cardboard box onto the keyboard.
“You—you can't do this!” Daniel shouted, standing up so fast his chair crashed into the filing cabinet. “I’m senior acquisitions manager! I’m marrying Madeline Cross! My father-in-law is—was—Grant Holloway! You have no authority here!”
“My authority comes from Nathaniel Mercer,” the guard said flatly, his hand resting on his belt. “And right now, Mercer Holdings owns eighty percent of Blackridge's restructured debt. Which means we own your chair, your office, and your parking space.”
“Where is Emma?” Daniel demanded, his voice cracking with panic as he realized the horrifying truth of what he had done. “She has the audit keys! She’s the only one who can unlock the secondary payroll databases! Where did she go?”
“Miss Parker,” the guard replied with a cold, mocking smile, “is currently sitting in a federal field office in Denver, signing her new employment contract as Pinehaven’s Chief Financial Strategist.”

Daniel staggered backward, his legs hitting the edge of his desk, the color draining entirely from his face.
The girl he had toyed with, humiliated, and discarded under the chandeliers of the Grand Timber Lodge had just pulled the pin on the grenade that blew his entire world to pieces.
