Chapter 2 - The Counter-Strategy in the ShadowsThe fog in my head was thick, but the sheer terror of hearing my parents' scheduled assassination acted like a shot of adrenaline straight to my heart. I dragged my leaden limbs back along the mahogany corridor, sliding silently into our suite before Flynn could finish his drink downstairs. Every footstep felt like walking through wet cement, the sedatives threatening to shut down my nervous system entirely.

I needed to purge the poison, and fast. Sticking two fingers down my throat, I forced myself to vomit repeatedly into the porcelain sink until my stomach was entirely empty of the tainted soup and the white pills. Rinsing my mouth out with bottled water, I stared at my reflection in the mirror—pale, trembling, but with a fierce, cold fire burning behind my eyes. They thought they had broken me. They thought I was a helpless doll waiting to be tossed into the abyss. They had no idea who I really was. Before marrying Flynn, I had spent years managing risk assessments and compliance protocols for my father’s shipping conglomerates; I knew how corporate entities crumbled, and I knew how to lay a trap.

Quietly creeping to the nightstand, I picked up Flynn’s discarded smartphone while he was still downstairs celebrating with his parents. Using his own sleeping face for biometric facial recognition—a lazy security habit he never broke—I unlocked the device. Inside his encrypted messages, I found the digital goldmine: wire transfer drafts targeting my father's accounts, confirmation numbers for offshore Swiss shell companies, and explicit text receipts from his parents coordinating the entire conspiracy. I didn't just screenshot them; I forwarded the entire archive directly to my father’s secure private server, along with an automated timer set to trigger a full federal maritime investigation and asset freeze at midnight if I didn't manually reset it. Then, I pocketed my own burner phone—a discreet precaution I always kept hidden—and waited for the trap to spring.
