Chapter 4 - The Unraveling of an Empire

Before Marcus could formulate another desperate excuse, the tactical team moved with brutal efficiency. Two operatives seized Marcus by the shoulders, slamming him face-first against the concrete wall and slapping heavy steel cuffs onto his wrists.
“Get your hands off me! Do you know who I am?!” Marcus screamed, kicking and thrashing as they dragged him toward the stairs. “Chloe! Chloe, call the lawyers! Call everyone!”
Upstairs, a terrified shriek echoed down the stairwell as Chloe—wrapped in one of my silk bathrobes—was marched into the basement by two more armed operatives, her hands zip-tied behind her back. Her face was stark white, her eyes wide with unadulterated terror as she saw Marcus pinned to the wall and me bleeding on the floor.
“Please! I didn't know anything about a cage!” Chloe wailed, bursting into violent tears. “Marcus told me she left voluntarily! He said the house was legally his!”
My father didn't even dignify her with a glance. He knelt back down beside me, gently checking my pulse and pressing a warm, heavy tactical jacket over my shivering shoulders.
“Can you walk, Elena?” he asked, his voice softening with immense tenderness.
“The baby... coming... soon,” I panted, clutching my stomach as another severe contraction wrenched through my body.
“Medic team Alpha!” my father barked over his comms link.
Within three seconds, two elite combat medics in dark suits descended the basement stairs carrying a portable, state-of-the-art neonatal and trauma stabilization unit. They moved with lightning speed, cutting away the remaining debris, sliding a padded stretcher beneath me, and securing an IV line into my arm.
“Sir, we need to transport her to the private medical wing at St. Jude’s immediately,” the lead medic reported crisply. “Labor is in an advanced stage. The trauma and dehydration have accelerated the timeline.”
“Move,” my father ordered.
As they lifted me onto the stretcher, I caught one last glimpse of Marcus as he was hauled up the stairs. His face was twisted in a mask of pure, unadulterated horror as he realized that the life he had built, the wealth he had stolen, and the future he had planned were evaporating before his eyes in less than ten minutes.

“Elena! Please!” Marcus screamed, his voice cracking desperately as the heavy oak basement doors were kicked shut behind us. “Don't let him do this! We’re family!”
I didn't answer. I closed my eyes, letting the darkness wash over me as the sleek, armored medical van raced away from the house of horrors into the cool night air.
