Chapter 5 - Blood and RainFifteen minutes felt like fifteen years.

Inside the quiet sanctuary of the Maybach, the sound of rain pounding against the roof was punctuated by sudden, sharp pops of gunfire echoing from inside the warehouse. Every gunshot made me flinch, my heart hammering wildly against my ribs.
Suddenly, a massive explosion rocked the back of the warehouse, blowing out the upper windows in a shower of sparks and orange flames.
"Mr. Valentino!" one of the guards in the front seat yelled into his radio. "Status report!"
Nothing but static answered.
"I'm going out there," I said, reaching for the door handle.
"Mrs. Valentino, no! It's too dangerous!" the guard protested, reaching back to stop me.
"That's my husband and my father in there!" I snapped, throwing the heavy door open and plunging out into the freezing storm.
I sprinted across the muddy lot toward the side entrance of the warehouse, my satin robe soaking through in seconds. I didn't care about the cold. I didn't care about the danger. The thought of Adrian lying bleeding inside that building tore through my soul like a physical blade.
I slipped through a shattered doorway into the smoke-filled interior.
The warehouse was a battleground. Broken crates, spent bullet casings, and unconscious guards lay scattered across the concrete floor.
Near the center of the room, illuminated by the flicker of burning wooden pallets, stood Adrian.
His suit jacket was gone, his white shirt torn and stained with soot and blood. In his right hand, he held a weapon lowered at his side. At his feet lay Salvatore Petrov, groaning in defeat, cuffed and surrounded by Marco’s team.
Sitting safely on a wooden chair nearby, terrified but completely unharmed, was my father.
"Dad!" I cried out, rushing forward.
"Clara?!" my father gasped, tears welling in his eyes as I wrapped my arms around his neck. "Oh, thank God! Clara!"
"Are you hurt? Did they touch you?" I asked frantically, checking his arms and face.
"I'm fine, sweetheart... Mr. Valentino... he came in like a storm. He took them all down himself," my father whispered in awe.
I slowly turned around to look at Adrian.
He was standing ten feet away, breathing heavily, his broad chest heaving under his ruined shirt. Blood was trickling down his jaw from a cut on his temple, but his dark eyes were fixed entirely on me.
He didn't look at Petrov. He didn't look at his men. He only looked at me, standing in the rain and smoke in my soaked satin robe.
"I told you I would bring him back," Adrian said, his voice raspy and raw.
I left my father’s side and walked straight toward Adrian. When I reached him, I didn't hesitate. I threw my arms around his waist, burying my face into his blood-stained shirt.
Adrian froze for a split second in utter shock. Then, a low groan escaped his throat, and his arms wrapped fiercely around me, lifting me slightly off my feet and crushing me against his chest.
"You came out here... you foolish, brave woman," Adrian murmured into my wet hair, his body trembling with residual adrenaline. "You could have been killed."
"I don't care," I sobbed into his chest. "I couldn't stay in that car, Adrian. I couldn't lose you."
May you like
Adrian pulled back just far enough to look down into my face. His thumb reached up, wiping away a mixture of rain and tears from my cheek.
"You are never going to lose me, Clara," he swore softly, his voice dropping into a fierce whisper. "Never."
