Chapter 5 - The UnravelingJudge Sterling granted permission with a flick of her hand. Marcus stepped forward, handing up three distinct pieces of evidence.

"Exhibit A," Marcus began, his voice ringing clear and authoritative across the courtroom, "is the original quitclaim deed filed this morning by the petitioner, purporting to bear the witnessed signature of my client transferring the Elm Street property to Caldwell LLC. Exhibit B is a certified forensic handwriting analysis report commissioned within the last six hours, demonstrating conclusively that Mrs. Vance’s signature on that document was forged—traced digitally from a tax return signature block."
Julian grabbed Henderson’s arm, his face completely drained of color, whispering frantically. "That's absurd! She signed it! She knew about it!"
Henderson looked terrified, realizing he had just walked blind into a perjury trap laid by his own client. "Your Honor, my client insists—"
"And finally, Your Honor," Marcus said, pausing for dramatic effect as he placed a small, encrypted flash drive on the clerk’s desk, "we have Exhibit C. A high-definition video and audio recording taken less than forty-eight hours ago at Denver International Airport. On this recording, Mr. Julian Vance can be seen conspiring with his corporate analyst and mistress, Victoria Vance, explicitly detailing how he intended to fraudulently strip his wife of her accounts, steal her family home, and leave her destitute while laughing about it."
The courtroom erupted into a collective gasp.
Judge Sterling’s face hardened into stone. She looked from Marcus over to Julian, whose knees were visibly trembling beneath the defense table.
"Play the recording," Judge Sterling ordered quietly, her voice like cracking ice.
The courtroom bailiff inserted the flash drive into the media console. A moment later, the crystal-clear audio of Julian’s voice echoed off the courtroom walls:
"Everything's ready... That idiot is about to lose everything... Once the transfer clears, she's finished. No accounts. No access. I'll file immediately. Quick. Clean. Done."
Victoria’s gleeful voice followed immediately after: "And the house?"
"Already handled."
The recording played out to the end, capturing every arrogant laugh, every smug declaration of theft. When the audio finally cut off, the silence in the courtroom was so profound you could hear the hum of the overhead ventilation system.
Judge Sterling slowly took off her glasses, folding them deliberately and placing them on her desk. She turned her icy gaze directly onto Julian Vance.
"Mr. Vance," the judge said, her voice dripping with venomous contempt. "You stand in my courtroom, under oath by proxy of your counsel, attempting to execute an emergency asset seizure using fraudulent, forged legal instruments, while actively conspiring with an employee to loot your wife's personal estate. Is that correct?"
Julian opened and closed his mouth like a fish out of water. Sweat was beading rapidly across his forehead, staining the collar of his white dress shirt. "Your... Your Honor, it's a misunderstanding! The audio—that's deepfake technology! That's AI-generated! She set me up!"
"AI-generated?" Judge Sterling repeated, her eyebrows arching. "Mr. Vance, do you take this court for a collection of fools? Not only is the video metadata verified by independent forensic experts, but your own briefcase sitting right there on the defense table contains the physical corporate seal and rough draft notes matching the exact asset distribution scheme discussed in that recording."
Julian looked down in sheer horror at the leather briefcase resting beside his chair—the very same briefcase he had bragged about filling with my destruction only hours earlier.
"Furthermore," Judge Sterling continued, not breaking momentum, "pursuant to Colorado Revised Statutes regarding fraud upon the court and wire fraud, I am denying the petitioner's motion with prejudice. Additionally, I am issuing an immediate bench warrant for the arrest of Victoria Vance, freezing all corporate and personal assets of Caldwell LLC pending a federal grand jury referral, and ordering Mr. Julian Vance into immediate custody of the bailiff for contempt of court and subornation of perjury."
"No! No, wait! You can't do this!" Julian shrieked, lunging forward as two towering bailiffs instantly stepped behind his chair, their heavy hands clamping down firmly onto his shoulders.
"Get your hands off me!" Julian screamed, thrashing wildly as they yanked his arms behind his back and slapped heavy steel handcuffs around his wrists. "Maya! Maya, please! Tell them! We're married! Drop this! Maya!"
I slowly removed my dark sunglasses, leaned back in my gallery seat, and met his frantic, terrified eyes across the courtroom.
I didn't yell. I didn't cry. I simply gave him a small, cold, utterly pitiless smile.

The bailiffs dragged him kicking and screaming through the swinging wooden doors, his expensive bespoke suit scuffing against the floor, disappearing down the hallway toward the holding cells.
The trap had sprung. And Julian was caught in the jaws.
