Chapter 3 - The Midnight RaidThe flashing red and blue lights painted the white marble pillars of the Salazar foyer in an eerie, pulsing glow.

Inside the dining room, the dinner was completely forgotten. The table, once laden with caviar and expensive wine, now looked like a crime scene. Beatrice Salazar stood gripping the edge of the mahogany table, her knuckles white, her face drained of all color. Victoria was trembling, staring at her phone screen where notification after notification flashed with frozen bank accounts, credit card declines, and urgent alerts from their primary wealth management firm.
Julian stood near the French doors, his face twisted in a mask of fury and disbelief. He had just finished a frantic three-minute call with the chief financial officer of Salazar Enterprises.
"It's a mistake! It has to be a administrative error!" Julian yelled, running a hand through his perfectly styled hair, messing it up for the first time in his life. "The DOJ doesn't just freeze a billion-dollar conglomerate's operational accounts on a Saturday night without warning!"
Before anyone could answer, the heavy front doors of the mansion pushed open.
Three men in dark federal suits, led by Special Agent Marcus Vance, stepped into the grand foyer. Behind them walked two armed U.S. Marshals. They didn't knock, and they didn't wait for an invitation.
"Beatrice Salazar? Julian Salazar?" Agent Vance called out, his voice sharp and authoritative as he strode directly into the dining room. He held up an official federal warrant bearing a federal judge’s signature.
Beatrice straightened her posture, desperately trying to summon the fading remnants of her aristocratic authority. "How dare you walk into my home like this! Do you know who my family is? I demand to speak to the Attorney General immediately! This is an outrage!"
"It’s a warrant," Vance replied coldly, not intimidated in the slightest. He scanned the room before locking his eyes onto Julian. "Julian Salazar, Beatrice Salazar, and Victoria Salazar, you are formally served with federal freeze orders and under investigation for conspiracy, wire fraud, grand larceny, and systematic embezzlement of corporate pension funds totaling over forty-five million dollars."
The room seemed to drop ten degrees.
Victoria let out a muffled sob, sinking heavily into her chair. "Embezzlement? That’s impossible! We didn't—we couldn't have—who did this?!"
"Who do you think?"
A calm, resonant voice cut through the chaos from the staircase.
Every head turned upward. Elena stood on the landing, descending the stairs with slow, measured steps. She had changed out of her blue dinner dress into a sharp, tailored black pantsuit that commanded the room. Her hair was loose, falling in soft waves over her shoulders, and her expression was completely serene.
Julian stared at her as if she were a ghost. "Elena? What... what are you wearing? What is happening here?"
Beatrice glared at her daughter-in-law, her eyes burning with sudden, venomous realization. "You! You little bitch! Did you do this?! Did you call these people?!"
Elena paused on the bottom step, looking down at the matriarch who had humiliated her just an hour ago.
"I didn't just call them, Beatrice," Elena said smoothly, her voice cutting through the silence like a scalpel. "I handed them the entire case file. Every offshore account in the Cayman Islands, every forged signature on the pension restructuring documents from 2022, and every single cent you stole from the employee trust funds. It's all in the federal database now."
"You lying, ungrateful parasite!" Julian roared, lunging forward as if he wanted to physically strike her.
Before he could take two steps, both U.S. Marshals stepped forward, pinning Julian’s arms behind his back and snapping cold steel handcuffs around his wrists with a sharp click.
Julian thrashed against them, his face turning purple with rage. "Elena! Tell them to take these off! You're my wife! You belong to this family!"

Elena stopped inches from him, looking down at the man who had laughed while his mother and sister tore her apart.
"I was never your family, Julian," Elena whispered softly. "I was just an opportunist. And right now, my greatest opportunity is watching you lose everything."
