Chapter 6 - The Fall of Rhodes-CrossThe morning sun over Boston was cold and pale, casting long shadows across the financial district.

At 9:00 AM, the grand ballroom of the InterContinental Hotel was packed with shareholders, reporters, and the entire board of directors of Rhodes-Cross Global. Camille sat at the center of the stage, her father Winston to her right, and my mother Victoria to her left. They looked like a triumvirate of monarchs preparing to announce a new dynasty.

"Today, we finalize the merger of our two great empires," Winston Rhodes announced into the microphone, his voice booming through the crowded room. "With the transition of the Cross family voting shares to my daughter, Camille Rhodes-Cross, we will create the largest logistics and shipping conglomerate on the East Coast."

The room erupted into polite applause. Camille stood up, adjusting her tailored white blazer, preparing to take the microphone and seal her victory.

Suddenly, the heavy double doors at the back of the ballroom swung open with a loud, dramatic bang.

The reporters turned, their cameras flashing instantly as I walked down the center aisle. But I wasn't alone.

Beside me walked FBI Special Agent Thomas Miller and a team of federal prosecutors. And behind them, pushing a double stroller, came Naomi, holding Bella’s hand.

"What is the meaning of this?" Victoria screamed, standing up from her seat, her face turning a deep, angry red. "Elliot, have you lost your mind? Security, remove him!"

"The security guards at the door have already been detained, Mother," I said, my voice clear, strong, and projecting perfectly through the microphone system. "And this meeting is officially adjourned."

Camille’s face went white. She stared at Naomi, then at the federal agents. "Elliot... you signed the contract. You signed the shares over to me!"

"I signed a contract under extreme duress, Camille," I said, walking up the steps of the stage. Agent Miller stepped forward, opening his leather briefcase and pulling out a warrant.

"And while you were busy celebrating your corporate victory," I continued, "my legal team was presenting a recording to the federal district judge. Not the recording of my phone call with Naomi... but the recording from the security cameras on Blackwood Island, which my investigator successfully hacked last night."

The main projector screen behind the stage suddenly flickered to life.

Instead of the Rhodes-Cross corporate logo, a high-definition video played. It was the footage from the Victorian foyer. The audio was crystal clear: Camille’s voice threatening to declare Naomi unfit, boasting about using her father's judges, and forcing me to sign my shares over under the threat of kidnapping my daughter.

The ballroom fell into a silent, horrified shock. Reporters gasped, their fingers flying across their laptops, while shareholders stood up in anger.

"This video," Agent Miller announced, his voice carrying the weight of the federal government, "along with the financial records of the Rhodes Group transferring funds to offshore accounts to finance the illegal detention of Naomi Keller, constitutes federal conspiracy, kidnapping, and extortion. Winston Rhodes, Camille Rhodes... you are under arrest."

The federal agents moved up the stage, their handcuffs clicking sharply as they secured Winston and Camille. Camille screamed, her perfect chignon falling apart as she was dragged down the stage, her eyes locked onto mine with a bitter, defeated fury.

My mother Victoria slumped into her chair, her face drained of all color, her empire crumbling around her in a matter of seconds.

I turned back to the gallery. I looked at Naomi, who was holding Bella close, a tear of pure, unadulterated relief running down her cheek.

For the first time in my life, I felt truly free.
