Chapter 6 - Rebuilding the Throne

Months passed with the peaceful, steady rhythm of the Pacific tides.
The sprawling Vance estate transformed as we prepared for the new arrival. The nursery was completed to absolute perfection—a sanctuary of warmth, love, and safety. I spent my days reviewing corporate governance reports alongside Alexander, learning the intricate machinery of the family empire, and rediscovering the sharp, brilliant mind I had buried beneath years of abuse and self-doubt.
Word of the Moreno family’s total ruin became local legend. Victor was transferred to a federal penitentiary three states away, completely isolated, his name whispered only as a cautionary tale of hubris meeting absolute retribution. His parents spent their days in sterile holding cells, awaiting trials that would guarantee they died behind bars.
By late November, the first winter snow began to dust the pine trees surrounding the estate.
It was a crisp, clear morning when the contractions started.
Panic didn't set in this time. Instead, calm, precise efficiency took over. Within twenty minutes, Alexander’s private medical helicopter was airborne, whisking me away to the private maternity wing of Seattle’s premier medical center, where a specialized team of obstetricians stood ready.
Alexander waited outside the delivery suite, pacing the polished marble hallway like an anxious general preparing for battle.
Thirteen hours later, the crisp, beautiful cry of a healthy newborn echoed through the delivery room.
The obstetrician smiled warmly, wrapping the tiny infant in a soft, cream-colored blanket and placing him directly into my arms.
“Congratulations, Mrs. Vance. A healthy baby boy. Ten fingers, ten toes, and lungs like a opera singer.”
Tears streamed down my face as I looked down at the tiny, perfect face nestled against my chest. He had dark, thick hair and a quiet, intense presence that already reminded me of the resilience running through our bloodline.
When the doors to the suite opened, Alexander walked in, his usual stoic expression melting away the moment he saw the bundle in my arms. He stopped by the bedside, his hands trembling slightly as he reached out to touch the baby’s tiny hand.
“Welcome to the world, little one,” Alexander whispered, his voice thick with emotion.
I looked up at my uncle, feeling a profound, unbreakable circle of protection surrounding us.
“We need a middle name,” I murmured softly.
Alexander looked down at the baby, then met my eyes with a knowing, fierce smile.

“Alexander,” he said firmly. “Leo Alexander Vance.”
I smiled through my tears, pressing a kiss to my son’s dark hair. “Leo Alexander Vance. It’s perfect.”
