Chapter 7 - The Dawn of a New DynastyThree months after the night on the Zurich tarmac, the Chicago spring finally broke through the winter chill, painting the sprawling gardens of the Rossi estate in brilliant shades of emerald and gold.

The transition of power had been swift, absolute, and merciless.

Eleanor Rossi had been quietly transferred to a secure medical facility in northern Italy, stripped of every title, asset, and ounce of authority she had ever wielded over the syndicate. The old guard—the corrupt capos and loyalists who had enabled her tyranny—had either stepped down or been replaced by younger, reformed leaders who understood that the Rossi family was no longer a prison for the innocent.

Inside the newly renovated nursery on the east wing of the estate, the pale-blue walls radiated warmth beneath the soft morning sunlight.

I stood by the window, watching little Leo—now a robust, smiling four-month-old—cooing happily as he kicked his legs against the satin mattress of his crib.

Grace walked into the nursery, carrying a tray with two cups of coffee, her face glowing with the radiant, untroubled beauty I had fallen in love with years ago. She set the tray down on the dresser, walked over, and slid her arms around my waist from behind, resting her head against my back.

“Prescott called,” Grace murmured, a soft smile playing on her lips. “The final asset liquidation audit from Geneva is complete. Every offshore account your mother controlled has been legally transferred into a charitable trust for children’s hospitals.”

I turned around in her embrace, wrapping my arms securely around her and kissing the top of her head.

“Good,” I said softly. “Let’s use her stolen empire to build something that actually protects families instead of destroying them.”

Grace leaned back, looking up into my eyes with a mischievous sparkle. “Does that mean the mafia boss is officially retiring from intimidation?”

“Not entirely,” I grinned, pressing my forehead against hers. “I still have to intimidate any boy who comes within fifty feet of this house when Leo grows up.”

Grace laughed—a bright, musical sound that filled the room, chasing away the last lingering shadows of the dark basement cells and the bitter winters of the past.

Downstairs, the heavy iron gates of the estate stood wide open to the morning sun. The fortress was no longer a cage built to keep enemies out or secrets buried; it was a home, fiercely guarded by love, strength, and an unbreakable truth that nothing could ever tear apart again.
