Chapter 5 - The Corporate VipersThe emergency board meeting of Vance International was convened at 6:00 AM on a freezing Thursday morning in the thirty-sixth-floor executive boardroom overlooking the glittering skyline of downtown Chicago.

The room was packed with sixteen powerful directors, senior legal counsel members, and institutional shareholders. At the head of the long mahogany table sat Arthur Sterling—a silver-haired, impeccably dressed corporate titan who had served as mentor, friend, and board chairman to Victor for over fifteen years.
Arthur adjusted his gold-rimmed glasses, looking around the table with an expression of profound, grandfatherly concern.
“Ladies and gentlemen,” Arthur began, his voice smooth and authoritative, “we are all deeply distressed by the tragic events unfolding at the Vance estate this week. The arrest of Serena Vance and the sensationalized police reports regarding historical family matters are regrettable distractions from our primary mission: maintaining shareholder confidence.”
He paused, casting a heavy, meaningful glance toward the empty chair beside him—the seat reserved for the CEO.
“Given Mr. Vance’s current emotional instability, personal distractions, and the alarming security breaches on his private property, the executive committee has drafted an emergency resolution,” Arthur continued, sliding a thick legal document across the granite table. “Under corporate bylaws section nine, paragraph four, the board votes to temporarily suspend Victor Vance from executive duties, freeze his voting shares, and appoint an independent interim management team—effective immediately.”
The room fell into a dead, complicit silence. Not a single director raised a hand to object. They were all compromised, all tied to the offshore accounts Serena had exposed.
Before Arthur could sign his name to the suspension order, the heavy double doors of the boardroom swung open with a resounding bang.
Victor Vance walked into the room.
He wasn't wearing a casual sweater or looking distressed. He wore a razor-sharp charcoal three-piece suit, his posture rigid as steel, his eyes burning with the cold, absolute fury of a man who had nothing left to hide.
Behind him walked Captain Marcus Vance, flanked by four armed federal marshals carrying heavy tactical evidence cases.
“You can save your paperwork, Arthur,” Victor said, his voice echoing off the high wood-paneled walls as he marched straight toward the head of the table. 🇦
Arthur didn't flinch, though a slight twitch appeared at the corner of his left eye. He smiled patronizingly, resting his hands flat on the mahogany wood.
“Victor, my boy. You shouldn't be here. You need time to rest—to mourn the bizarre delusions your sister-in-law has infected you with—”
“My sister-in-law is currently singing like a canary in a federal holding cell,” Victor interrupted, slamming a thick, red-sealed federal indictment binder down onto the desk right in front of Arthur’s hands. “And she brought receipts. Every offshore wire transfer, every forged shipping manifest, and every corporate bribe authorized by the executive committee over the last six years has been authenticated.”
Arthur stared down at the binder. The color slowly drained from his face, leaving his skin the texture of old parchment.
“You’re bluffing,” Arthur whispered, though his voice shook.
“Am I?” Marcus Vance stepped forward, snapping open a federal arrest warrant. “Arthur Sterling, you are hereby charged with racketeering, securities fraud, obstruction of justice, and accessory to premeditated homicide in the death of Eleanor Vance.”
The boardroom erupted into absolute chaos.

Directors scrambled backward, shouting over one another, while the federal marshals moved swiftly to secure the exits. Arthur Sterling sat frozen in his chair, his hands trembling as the cold steel handcuffs clicked around his wrists.
The vipers who had ruled the corporate empire from the shadows had finally been dragged out into the harsh, unforgiving light of day.
