Chapter 8 - Unbroken and Forever HomeThree months later, the Mercer-Moretti estate was bathed in the warm, golden glow of holiday lights. Snow fell in soft, gentle flakes across the Long Island lawns, covering the iron gates and the pristine stone pathways in a blanket of pure white.

Inside the grand ballroom, tables were set with crystal glasses and white linens for a gala celebrating the official merger of the Moretti shipping lines into a fully legitimate international logistics corporation.
Lorenzo Moretti stood near the marble fireplace, wearing an immaculate black tuxedo. He held a glass of sparkling cider in one hand while his other hand held onto a tiny, warm palm.
Four-year-old Lily wore a velvet red dress with white lace trim, her dark curls tied back with a silk ribbon. She looked up at him with large, adoring brown eyes.
"Renzo," she whispered loudly, pulling on his jacket sleeve. "Can we have pancakes for breakfast tomorrow?"
Lorenzo knelt down, smiling warmly as he adjusted her collar. "Only if you promise to eat your vegetables at dinner tonight, little one."
Across the room, Elena watched them from beside the orchestra, a gentle, content smile on her face. She had found peace, safety, and a true home under the protection of the man who ruled the city.
The massive oak doors of the ballroom swung open, and Sal Bruno stepped in, walking over to Lorenzo with a folder tucked under his arm.
"Federal prosecutor just signed off on the final corporate restructuring, Boss," Sal reported, his eyes flashing with pride. "The Moretti name is officially clean across all three states. No federal investigations. No pending indictments."
Lorenzo stood up, looking around the crowded room filled with supreme court justices, corporate executives, and trusted allies. The dark, bloody shadow of his past—of Matteo’s death, Vittorio’s betrayal, and the endless syndicate wars—had been permanently, historically erased.
He looked down at Lily, who had already gone back to examining the shiny buttons on his tuxedo cuff.
He hadn't planned for a child to enter his life. He hadn't planned for the ghost of his dead brother to echo in a little girl's whisper. But as he wrapped his arm around Lily and pulled her close against his side, Lorenzo knew that some ghosts didn't haunt you to drag you down—they stayed to show you the way back to the light.

The quiet, grieving Don was dead forever. The sovereign father, protector, and king had claimed his true home.
And standing under the vast, unbroken sky, holding his family safe in his arms, Lorenzo Moretti knew that his life, his heart, and his future were finally, beautifully, and forever home.
