Chapter 6 - The Debut at the GalaSix months after that fateful birthday night, the grand ballroom of the Plaza Hotel in Manhattan was bathed in the blinding glow of crystal chandeliers and silver decorations.
Over five hundred prominent business leaders, foreign ambassadors, federal judges, and high-society elite gathered for the annual Knox Global Philanthropic Gala.
Standing near the grand mahogany entrance, wearing an immaculate black tuxedo, was me—Declan Knox. My broad shoulders were squared, my storm-gray eyes scanning the room with absolute, sovereign calm.
Beside me stood seventy-one-year-old Arthur, holding a glass of vintage champagne, a warm, proud smile lighting up his aged face.
"You built an empire out of truth, Declan," Arthur murmured softly, looking at the buzzing crowd. "Your father would be proud."
"My father made mistakes, Arthur," I answered quietly. "I'm just fixing them."
Suddenly, the music from the grand string quartet tapered off into a soft, melodic prelude.
The heavy double doors at the top of the grand marble staircase swung open.
Stepping into the warm spotlight was Clary Knox.
She wore a breathtaking, floor-length emerald silk evening gown that celebrated every line of her radiant, recovered figure. Her brown hair was styled in glossy, elegant waves pinned back with a diamond hairpiece, and her eyes shone with absolute, unshakeable confidence, inner peace, and sovereign grace.
A collective, appreciative gasp swept through the five hundred elite guests.
Clary walked down the grand marble staircase with grace and poise, holding her head high—no longer the quiet, terrified cleaner hiding behind a mirror, but the true Princess of the Knox family.
She walked straight up to me, offering a soft, radiant smile that lit up the entire ballroom.
"How do I look, Declan?" she asked softly.
May you like
I reached out, taking her hand—her smooth, healed hand—and placed it gently over my arm.
"You look like a Knox, little sister," I answered with deep, genuine pride. "You look unstoppable."
