Chapter 6 - The Unbroken DynastyBy 6:00 AM, the rain over Manhattan had cleared, leaving behind a brilliant, sunlit autumn morning over the skyline.

Victor Lane and his six primary enforcers had been taken into custody by federal marshals, their illegal customs operations completely exposed and dismantled using the evidence Alexander's team had gathered overnight.

The Lane family empire was erased from New York society in less than twelve hours.

Inside the grand ballroom of the Ashford Grand—now pristine, restored, and filled with warm morning sunlight—a private gathering had convened.

Sitting at a large mahogany table were Don Carmine Vance, my mother Elena, my brother Mateo, and Alexander.

Don Carmine looked at me as I walked into the ballroom wearing an elegant cream silk dress, his dark eyes shining with ancient, quiet respect.

"Your father would be proud, Sophia," Don Carmine said smoothly, setting his ironwood cane against his chair. "You defended your family in the dark without shedding a single drop of innocent blood. That is the true mastery of the Quiet Current."

"Thank you, Don Carmine," I bowed respectfully.

Alexander stood up from the table, walking over to stand beside me. He pulled a thick, velvet-lined box from his jacket and opened it gently.

Inside rested my father's silver pocket watch, now fully restored, its glass face polished, ticking in a steady, unbroken, golden rhythm: TICK... TICK... TICK...

Alexander gently placed the watch into my palm, wrapping his broad, warm hand over my fingers.

"Your father's legacy is safe, Sophia," Alexander whispered softly, his gray eyes looking deep into mine with an intense, unreserved devotion that made my heart leap in my chest. "And as long as I draw breath... you and your family will never walk alone again."

I looked down at the ticking watch, then looked up into Alexander's gray eyes—seeing a man who had carried his gratitude for six long years, a man who had built a fortress to protect the memory of a stranger who had saved his life.

"I know, Alexander," I smiled warmly, my fingers interlacing tightly with his. "I know."
