Chapter 7 - The Sunrise Over the RockiesThree weeks after the trial concluded, the penthouse overlooking the Denver skyline was finally quiet again—not with the suffocating, terrifying tension of the past, but with the warm, vibrant hum of absolute peace.

The cigarette burns on my skin had faded into pale, silvery scars—permanent reminders of a battle I had fought, survived, and decisively won.

In the newly redecorated nursery, painted in soft shades of cream and sage green, a brand-new crib sat against the wall. Sleeping soundly inside it was my healthy, beautiful newborn daughter, Maya—named for the strength it took to bloom in the middle of a wasteland.

I stood on the wide wrap-around balcony of the penthouse, holding a mug of warm tea, watching the early morning sun crest over the snow-covered peaks of the Rocky Mountains. The sky blazed in magnificent shades of violet, amber, and gold.

My phone buzzed gently on the patio table beside me.

It was a notification from my banking app: Wire transfer received. Settlement complete. All properties, shell companies, and seized assets fully liquidated and deposited into the Claire & Maya Bennett Foundation.

I smiled, picking up my mug and taking a slow, comforting sip.

There were no more secrets. No more forged signatures. No more hiding behind closed doors or pretending that cruelty was patience.

The penthouse was mine. The future was mine. And as I looked down at the glittering city below, I knew with absolute certainty that no one would ever hold my wrists again.
