Chapter 7 - The Kingdom of LightOne year later, the spring sun was shining brightly over the manicured rose gardens of Rourke House.

The dark, fortress-like aura that had defined the estate for decades was completely gone—replaced by a warm, radiant sanctuary filled with blooming white hydrangeas, open windows, and the peaceful sound of ocean waves crashing against the cliffs below.

I stood on the stone terrace wearing a beautiful, flowing cream silk dress, reviewing a stack of medical research files for the newly opened Martha Vance Medical Rehabilitation Center in downtown Providence—a state-of-the-art facility fully funded by Rourke Global to provide free care for spinal injury survivors.

Footsteps sounded softly on the patio floor behind me.

Maxwell walked out, wearing a simple white linen shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his forearms, carrying two fresh cups of dark coffee.

He walked over to my chair, set the coffee down, and leaned down to press a soft, sweet kiss against my lips.

"How are the Q2 hospital expansion reports looking, Director Vance?" Maxwell teased softly, his gray eyes shining with health, peace, and absolute love.

"Flawless, Chairman Rourke," I smiled back, reaching up to gently stroke his dark hair. "The new wing opens next month."

Maxwell let out a low, genuine laugh, pulling me up from my chair and wrapping his strong arms around my waist, lifting me effortlessly into his embrace.

Around my neck rested a flawless, four-carat raw-cut emerald necklace—a symbol of the sovereign bond that held our lives together.

He looked deep into my eyes, resting his forehead against mine under the warm spring sun.

"No more poisoned taps, Martha," Maxwell whispered softly.

"No more secrets, Maxwell," I swore back, pulling his lips down to mine in a deep, sweet, consuming kiss that sealed our promise under the open sky.

Down below, the blue waves of Narragansett Bay crashed triumphantly against the stone cliffs, and as the warm sunlight bathed us in golden, unbroken light, I knew that our real life had finally, beautifully, and forever begun.
