Chapter 7 - The Sunrise Over the EstateBy dawn, the police sirens had faded, the federal agents had cleared the debris from the main gates, and the frantic chaos of the night had dissolved into the quiet, crystalline stillness of an autumn morning.

The mansion was secure. Viktor Rostov and his men were already locked inside a federal holding facility downtown, awaiting charges that would ensure they never saw daylight again.

I stood on the expansive stone balcony off the master suite, watching the golden rays of the sun paint the bare trees of the Greenwich estate in brilliant shades of amber and rose. A cup of hot coffee steamed between my hands.

Footsteps approached softly behind me.

Adrian stepped out onto the balcony, wearing a fresh white shirt, his sleeves rolled up to his forearms. A white bandage covered the shallow cut on his temple, but otherwise, he looked stronger, lighter, and more at peace than I had ever seen him.

"The boys are still asleep," Adrian said quietly, leaning against the stone balustrade beside me. "Exhaustion finally caught up with them around four in the morning."

"They were brave last night," I said softly, staring out at the horizon. "Evan stood in front of his brothers like a seasoned soldier."

"He learned it from you," Adrian replied, turning his head to look at me. His gaze was intense, warm, and utterly captivating. "You walked into this house seventy-two hours ago to save your sister. But you ended up saving all of us."

I turned to face him, my heart swelling with a fierce, undeniable emotion. "You didn't need saving, Adrian. You just needed someone stubborn enough not to run away when things got messy."

Adrian reached out, his warm fingers gently cupping my cheek, tracing the line of my jawline.

"I never want you to run away, Nia," he whispered, his voice thick with raw, honest devotion. "Stay. Not as a nanny on a seventy-two-hour probation. Stay as my partner. Stay as their mother."

My breath hitched. The morning breeze rustled through the trees around us, carrying the distant, sweet sound of Maya’s voice echoing in my mind from our morning phone call—telling me she was scheduled for surgery next week and that she had never heard me sound so genuinely happy.

I looked into Adrian’s slate-gray eyes, seeing no walls, no fortress, and no hidden ledgers—only a future waiting to be built.

I smiled, leaning up to press my lips softly against his.

"Only if I'm in charge of the kitchen," I whispered against his mouth.

Adrian pulled me flush against his chest, wrapping his arms around me with absolute, unshakeable permanence as the sun finally crested the horizon, bathing the entire estate in golden, healing light.
