Chapter 6 - The Siege of Greenwich"Dad!"

Evan’s frantic scream echoed down the stairwell.
I didn't wait for Adrian. I sprinted past him toward the grand staircase, my heart pounding in my throat as I vaulted up the steps two at a time. Through the haze of tear gas that was already beginning to seep through the lower windows, I saw three masked men in tactical gear swarming the second-floor landing.
"Get back!" one of them shouted in a harsh, heavily accented voice, raising an assault rifle toward Noah, who was cowering near the playroom door.
Instinct overrode fear.
I grabbed a heavy, bronze decorative urn from the hallway console and hurled it with every ounce of strength I possessed straight at the lead gunman's head. The urn connected with a sickening thud, sending the man staggering backward over the Persian rug.
"Nia!" Evan yelled, darting out from the playroom and grabbing his terrified younger brothers, shoving them toward the back service stairs. "This way! Move!"
"I'm right behind you!" I shouted, dodging a sweeping grab from the second intruder.
Adrenaline surged through my veins as I scrambled down the service corridor after the boys, my hands flying over the wall locks to secure the heavy steel fire doors. Just as the second gunman lunged around the corner, I slammed the reinforced steel door shut, engaging the heavy manual deadbolt just as a bullet punched clean through the metal inches from my shoulder.
"Are you guys okay?!" I demanded, grabbing Evan, Caleb, Noah, and Luke in a fierce, breathless huddle inside the second-floor reinforced linen room.
"We're fine!" Evan panted, his chest heaving, his slate-gray eyes wide with terror but completely devoid of panic. He looked at me with fierce, unwavering loyalty. "You... you just threw a bronze urn at an armed guy."
"My aim is improving," I gasped, checking the boys over for cuts. "Listen to me. We stay locked in here. Your dad is handling the front."
Downstairs, the muffled sound of suppressed gunfire echoed through the reinforced walls, punctuated by shouts, shattering glass, and the heavy roar of Adrian’s security detail neutralizing the breach. Every second dragged like an eternity. I pulled the four boys into a tight circle on the floor, whispering reassurances while my own hands shook uncontrollably.
Then, the heavy oak door at the end of the service corridor rattled.
Footsteps approached. Heavy, purposeful boots.
Evan instinctively grabbed a heavy wooden broom handle, stepping in front of his younger brothers with his jaw set in pure, defiant rage.
The doorknob turned.
I held my breath, lifting a heavy brass candlestick from the shelf, ready to strike whatever came through that door.
The heavy oak panel swung open.
Adrian stood in the doorway. His suit jacket was torn at the shoulder, a shallow graze bled freely down his left temple, and his Sig Sauer was smoking slightly in his grip. But his eyes—those fierce, unwavering gray eyes—scanned the room until they landed safely on his sons.
"Dad!" Noah shrieked, breaking formation and launching himself straight into Adrian’s arms.
Adrian dropped his weapon to the floor, catching Noah and pulling all four boys into a crushing, desperate embrace. For a long, silent moment, the billionaire kingpin and his sons simply held onto each other in the dim light of the linen closet, anchoring themselves against the storm.
Then Adrian looked up, his gaze locking onto mine across the small room.
