Chapter 5 - The Harbor Summit

The Providence docks at midnight looked like the mouth of hell.
A dense, freezing sea fog rolled off Narragansett Bay, swallowing the skeletal cranes and rusted shipping containers in an eerie, ghostly shroud. At Pier 4, inside a massive, corrugated steel warehouse, the leaders of the Moretti syndicate and their New York muscle sat around a scarred wooden workbench illuminated by a single hanging work light.
"Ronan has gone soft," muttered Salvatore Moretti, the aging patriarch who had flown in from Brooklyn to take control of the Rhode Island territory. "A man who chases waitresses is a man ready for a pine box. Tonight, we take the docks back. We take the council. And we leave his body for the tide."
The doors at the far end of the warehouse didn't open.
They flew inward with a deafening crash as a black SUV plowed straight through the corrugated metal, its high beams cutting blinding white swaths through the foggy gloom.
Before the panic could even set in, the roof hatches burst open, and black-clad enforcers dropped from ropes with military precision, their weapons drawn and locked.
And walking out from behind the SUV, flanked by Sal and twenty elite fighters, was Ronan Vale.
He wore his black trench coat, the collar turned up against the freezing harbor wind, his expression carved from absolute ice.
"Salvatore," Ronan’s voice echoed off the cavernous metal walls, carrying an authority so immense that several New York capos instinctively took a step back.
"Vale!" Salvatore Moretti snarled, pulling a silver-plated revolver from his waistband and pointing it straight at Ronan’s chest. "You arrogant bastard! You think you can walk into our—"
BANG.
Sal’s rifle cracked once, perfectly placed. The bullet struck Salvatore’s gun hand, sending the revolver spinning across the concrete with a metallic clatter as the old man shrieked in agony, clutching his bleeding wrist.
In a fraction of a second, the warehouse became a war zone of tactical maneuvers, shouted commands, and the deafening roar of suppressive fire. The New York muscle scrambled for cover behind shipping crates, but they were hopelessly outmatched. Ronan’s men swept through the docks like a tidal wave, disarming, neutralizing, and securing the entire perimeter in under four minutes.
Ronan walked slowly across the blood-slicked concrete until he stood directly in front of the cowering Salvatore Moretti, who was pinned to a chair by two of Ronan’s enforcers.
"You broke the truce," Ronan said quietly, looking down at the bleeding patriarch with dead, unblinking eyes. "You touched what belonged to me."
"She's a civilian, Ronan!" Salvatore spat, coughing up blood. "You're starting a war over a waitress?!"
"She is my life," Ronan answered simply.
With a swift, practiced motion, Ronan drew his sidearm, pressed the cold steel against Salvatore’s temple, and pulled the trigger.
The echoing gunshot marked the end of an era. The Moretti syndicate was finished, its leadership erased in a single night of unstoppable vengeance.
Sal stepped up beside Ronan, wiping soot from his jacket. "It’s done, Boss. The city is ours—completely. No one will ever question your authority again."

Ronan pocketed his weapon, turning toward the open doors where the cool ocean breeze was finally clearing away the smoke.
"Good," Ronan said, a dark, genuine smile finally touching his lips. "Because I have somewhere I need to be."
