Chapter 3 - Monday Morning at SwiftFreightThe executive floor of SwiftFreight was a masterclass in corporate theater on Monday morning.

At precisely 8:45 AM, the reception lobby was flooded with reporters from the Minneapolis Star Tribune, the Wall Street Journal’s logistics desk, and local television crews carrying heavy broadcast cameras. Catered breakfast pastries, silver coffee urns, and crystal champagne flutes lined the mahogany service stations.

Gavin Pierce walked down the corridor like a conquering hero. He wore a crisp white shirt, his favorite silk tie, and a grin so wide it practically stretched from ear to ear. Charlotte walked at his side, wearing a blinding white designer sheath dress, playing the part of the indispensable corporate muse.

Mason and Bridget stood near the floor-to-ceiling windows, whispering and laughing as they watched the media gather.

"Look at this," Mason whispered, shaking his head in amazement. "Three point two billion dollars. In fifteen minutes, the escrow accounts unlock, Crestview’s wire hits our primary reserve, and we officially own the entire upper midwest freight corridor."

"And Sabrina?" Bridget whispered back with a smug sneer. "Did her lawyer try anything over the weekend?"

"Nothing," Mason laughed. "Not a peep. The quit-claim deed is filed with the county clerk, the forty million in liability is legally attached to her social security number on paper, and she’s completely out of the picture. Gavin played it like a grandmaster."

At 8:55 AM, Gavin took his place at the center of the executive presentation stage in the main auditorium. Behind him, a massive digital LED screen blazoned the corporate logo: SwiftFreight: Logistics for Tomorrow, Powered by Crestview Partners.

Microphones bristled across the podium. The cameras rolled, streaming the event live to thousands of industry investors across the country.

"Ladies and gentlemen," Gavin began, his voice projecting with rich, practiced resonance. "Today marks a historic milestone not just for SwiftFreight, but for American logistics infrastructure as a whole. For six years, our team has labored tirelessly to build a network of unmatched efficiency, resilience, and scale. And today, we are immensely proud to finalize our strategic partnership with Crestview Partners—a global leader whose 3.2-billion-dollar investment validates our vision for the future."

Polite, thunderous applause erupted through the auditorium. Charlotte beamed from the front row, raising her champagne flute in silent toast.

Gavin checked his luxury wristwatch. 8:59 AM.

"At precisely nine o'clock," Gavin continued, puffing out his chest, "the wire transfer will clear from Crestview’s primary custodial account into SwiftFreight’s operational escrow. At that exact moment, our acquisition of Midwest Transit lines goes live. I want to thank my loyal executive team—Mason, Bridget, Charlotte—whose unwavering dedication made this dream a reality."

He paused, soaking in the adulation.

On the digital countdown clock behind him, the numbers ticked down: 00:03... 00:02... 00:01... 00:00.

9:00 AM.

Gavin turned toward the massive master terminal screen, expecting to see the green confirmation banner reading: WIRE TRANSFER COMPLETE: $3,200,000,000.00 USD.

Instead, the screen flashed a violent, glaring crimson.

A stark, bold warning message appeared across the display, broadcasting live to every camera in the room:

TRANSACTION REJECTED: CRITICAL SECURITY LOCKOUT.

ENTITY HOLDER RESTRICTION ENFORCED BY CRESTVIEW PARTNERS.

ACCOUNT FREEZE INITIATED UNDER PENAL CODE 18 U.S.C. § 1343 (WIRE FRAUD) AND ASSET SEIZURE ORDER CV-2026-8891.

The auditorium fell dead silent. The applause died instantly in mid-air. Reporters exchanged bewildered glances, their cameras frantically zooming in on the crimson warning banner.

Gavin’s smile froze on his face. The color drained from his skin, leaving him looking like a corpse under the stage lights.

"There... there’s a technical glitch," Gavin stammered into the podium microphone, his voice cracking slightly as nervous sweat beaded along his hairline. "Just a minor banking delay. IT department, please reset the terminal."

The double doors at the back of the auditorium slammed open with a loud, echoing bang.

Four armed federal marshals marched into the room in single file, their heavy boots striking the polished concrete floor with rhythmic authority. Behind them walked Arthur Pendelton, carrying a thick leather briefcase, flanked by two armed Crestview security guards.

Arthur did not look at the media cameras. He walked straight down the center aisle, stepping onto the stage right beside a paralyzed, shaking Gavin Pierce.

Arthur pulled a white-collar arrest warrant and an emergency federal asset seizure notice from his briefcase, unfolded them, and held them up for the entire room to see.

"Gavin Pierce," Arthur’s voice rang out, cold and unyielding, carrying clearly into every microphone in the auditorium. "You are hereby served with a federal injunction and asset freeze on behalf of Crestview Partners, acting as majority stakeholder and senior lienholder of SwiftFreight logistics infrastructure."

Gavin gripped the edges of the podium so tightly his knuckles turned chalk-white. "You... you can't do that! Crestview is our investor! We have a signed term sheet! Where is Harrison Miller?! Get me Harrison Miller on the phone right now!"

Arthur Pendelton offered a cold, humorless smile.

"Mr. Miller sends his regards," Arthur said loudly. "And he asked me to inform you that Harrison Miller doesn't negotiate with domestic abusers, extortionists, and common fraudsters."
