Chapter 2 - The Digital AvalancheThe frantic buzzing of three smartphones simultaneously broke the triumphant atmosphere of the dining room.

Julian pulled his phone out, his expression annoyed. "Probably the market makers in Tokyo," he muttered, swiping the screen to dismiss the notification. But when his eyes hit the display, the color drained instantly from his face. The confident, smug posture he had held all evening slumped forward.

"What is this?" Julian whispered, his fingers trembling as he tapped frantically on the screen.

Across the table, Chloe let out a sharp gasp. She dropped her phone onto her lap as if it had turned into a hot coal. "Julian! My card just got declined at the boutique! They said my account balance is negative fifty thousand dollars due to an emergency clawback!"

"Mine too," Leo stammered, his face turning pale. He refreshed his banking app, staring at a screen flashing bright red warning alerts. "Julian, my brokerage account—it's locked! All my positions are being force-liquidated!"

Beatrice slammed her fork down, her face contorting with outrage. "Julian, what kind of sick joke is this? My trust fund disbursement for this month hasn't cleared! The bank says our family office accounts have been flagged for federal compliance review!"

All eyes whipped back to me.

I remained seated, calmly cutting a small piece of roasted duck and placing it on my plate. I didn't eat it, but the deliberate slowness of my movement drove them wild with anxiety.

"You..." Julian stood up so fast his chair screeched loudly against the hardwood floor. He pointed a shaking finger at me. "What did you do? What did you do to our accounts?"

"I didn't do anything, Julian," I replied smoothly, taking a sip of water. "I simply exercised my rights as the majority shareholder and board chair of Aegis Holdings, as well as the primary lienholder on every single corporate and personal credit line your family relies on."

Julian let out a harsh, disbelieving laugh, though sweat was now beading on his forehead. "You? Don't talk nonsense! You're an unemployed housewife! You don't even have a credit score without my backing!"

"Let me educate you, since your MBA apparently skipped white-collar asset protection," I said, standing up gracefully from the table. The silk of my dress whispered against the quiet room. "Five years ago, when you met me, you were six million dollars in debt from your failed real estate startup. My family’s estate didn't just bail you out; we structured every single asset under a protective corporate veil. Every dollar you earned at the firm, every bonus, every stock option—it was all funneled through Aegis, backed by my personal collateral."

I stepped closer to the head of the table, looking down at Julian, who suddenly looked very small inside his expensive suit.

"You thought you were marrying a helpless girl you could cheat on with a junior agent," I continued, my voice dropping an octave, cold and crystal clear. "You forgot that the hand that signed your marriage certificate also holds the master keys to your entire financial existence. You didn't sell this house to Chloe for a dollar, Julian. You committed wire fraud and corporate asset stripping by signing a company-owned asset over to a third party without board authorization. That’s a federal offense."

Chloe burst into tears, her mascara running down her cheeks. "Julian! You said her family was poor! You said she had nothing!"

"She lied!" Julian roared, lunging forward, his face twisted in desperate rage. He reached out to grab my arm, but before his fingers could touch my wrist, the heavy oak doors of the dining room burst open.

Four uniformed federal marshals and two local police detectives marched into the room, their boots echoing sharply against the floor.
