Chapter 6 - The Fall of the DynastyBy Wednesday afternoon, the Harrow empire had completely disintegrated.

Federal agents occupied every floor of the Harrow Tower, boxing up files, seizing hard drives, and slapping yellow seizure notices across the executive suites. The waterfront development bond was permanently revoked, and emergency legislative hearings were launched to investigate municipal corruption across the entire county.

Julian had disappeared, fleeing to a private family chalet in Vermont before the federal indictments could be formally served. He had sent Claire a single, pathetic text message at dawn: I’m sorry. I couldn't stop her.

Claire hadn't even bothered to reply.

She stood now in the master study of the Hudson Valley estate—the very room where Evelyn had spent decades pulling the strings of local politicians and corporate executives. The room was empty now, stripped of its priceless art and mahogany desks as part of the asset forfeiture seizure.

The afternoon sun poured through the Palladian windows, casting long, warm beams across the polished hardwood floor.

A soft patter of footsteps echoed in the hallway.

Lily skipped into the room, holding a brand-new, perfectly woven flower crown made of real white daisies and green leaves that Sarah had helped her craft that morning.

“Mommy, look! It doesn't break!” Lily cheered, holding the crown up proudly.

Claire smiled, kneeling down to gently place the fresh flowers atop her daughter’s blonde hair. This time, there was no ring biting into her wrist, no fear in the air, and no shadow hanging over their heads.

“It’s beautiful, sweetheart,” Claire whispered, kissing Lily’s forehead.

A heavy shadow fell across the doorway.

Claire looked up to see Sarah standing there, holding a large cardboard box containing the last remnants of their personal belongings from the estate.

“The movers are downstairs with the truck,” Sarah said, a triumphant smile breaking across her face. “The state Attorney General just announced the establishment of the Vance Foundation for Worker Safety—funded entirely by the Harrow asset forfeiture seizure.”

Claire stood up, taking a deep, liberating breath of the crisp autumn air drifting in through the open window.

“Good,” Claire said softly. “Let’s go home.”
