Chapter 5 - The Siege of the Estate

Midnight fell over the Rossi estate like a shroud of black velvet. The sprawling mansion looked peaceful from the outside, its gothic windows glowing softly against the snowy backdrop of the winter night.

Inside, however, it was a war zone.

Dante Rossi walked through the grand double doors of the foyer, his long black overcoat billowing slightly behind him. Behind him marched a dozen of his most elite enforcers, their weapons drawn, their faces grim.

Vivien Rossi sat in her high-backed velvet armchair in the main parlor, sipping scotch by the roaring fireplace. She looked up as Dante entered, her face bruised from the punch earlier that day, but her posture stiff with defiant arrogance.

"So, you've returned," Vivien said, setting her glass down on the side table with a sharp clink. "I trust you've deposited that gold-digging girl back where she belongs, or handled her appropriately?"

Dante stopped ten feet away from her chair. He didn't speak. He simply reached into his coat, pulled out the thick manila folder Vance had given him, and tossed it onto her lap.

Vivien looked down at the papers. The color instantly drained from her face, leaving her looking ancient and hollow.

"Where... where did you get this?" she stammered, her hands trembling as she flipped through the financial records and signed agreements.

"Vance handed them to me," Dante said, his voice dropping into a chilling whisper. "You sold our ports. You sold our family name. And you tried to murder my wife and my unborn child because your greed and your desire for absolute control blinded you to everything else."

Vivien looked up, her aristocratic mask finally shattering completely, revealing the desperate, frantic coward underneath. "Dante, listen to me! I did it for the family! A strong syndicate cannot be weighed down by weakness! That girl—"

"That girl is the only reason there is any humanity left in this house," Dante interrupted, stepping closer. "And as of tonight, your reign over the Rossi empire is over."

Before Vivien could scream, the heavy oak doors of the parlor burst open. Marco stepped inside, flanked by local federal marshals holding federal arrest warrants.

"Vivien Rossi," the lead marshal stated coldly, stepping forward with handcuffs ready. "You are under arrest for federal financial fraud, corporate racketeering, conspiracy to commit kidnapping, and attempted murder."

"You can't do this!" Vivien shrieked, standing up and knocking her scotch glass to the floor as the marshals grabbed her arms and snapped the steel cuffs around her wrists. "I am your mother! I built this family! Dante! DANTE!"

Dante didn't even flinch as they dragged her past him toward the front entrance. He watched without a single ounce of pity as the woman who had birthed him, sheltered him, and ultimately tried to destroy his soul was led out into the freezing snow and pushed into the back of a federal squad car.

The estate was finally quiet. But the battle wasn't entirely over.

As the police cruisers drove away, Marco’s radio crackled to life with an urgent, terrifying message.

"Boss! We've got movement on the perimeter cameras! Victor Vance lied—he didn't come to make peace, he brought an entire strike team to hit the estate while we were distracted!"

Dante’s eyes flared with dark fire. He drew his weapon, cocking the slide with a crisp, lethal sound.

"Let them come," Dante snarled. "Tonight, we burn the corruption out of this house once and for all."
