Chapter 6 - The BreachThe glittering lights of the Cleveland skyline vanished in a single, terrifying second.

The smart-home automation system whined and died. The ventilation hum cut out. Every electronic display, security monitor, and smart lock across the three penthouse floors went dead, plunging us into an eerie, suffocating silence.

"Stay behind me," Harrison commanded instantly, his voice dropping into a razor-sharp tactical tone.

He moved with the practiced precision of a man who had prepared for this exact nightmare, pulling a heavy, suppressed automatic pistol from a biometric wall safe hidden behind a minimalist painting.

My heart hammered against my ribs like a trapped bird. They didn't wait for a court date, a voice screamed in my head. They're finishing the war tonight.

"Harrison, the emergency stairwell—" I started.

" Locked," a cold, distorted voice crackled through the penthouse intercom system, echoing off the glass walls. "And before you try to call for backup, Miss Parker, be advised that all cellular relays within a five-mile radius have been successfully jammed."

A collective chill ran down my spine.

Heavy, synchronized thuds echoed from the private elevator foyer. Thud. Thud. Thud.

Someone was cutting through the reinforced steel security doors with an industrial plasma torch. Molten sparks rained down in a blinding orange cascade against the dark glass of the foyer, illuminating the silhouette of at least four heavily armed men dressed in black tactical gear.

"They're coming for the servers," Harrison muttered, his jaw clenched so tight a muscle ticked in his cheek. "And for the equity certificates in your briefcase."

"We need to move, now," I urged, grabbing his sleeve.

"There's no escape through the perimeter," Harrison said calmly, though his eyes burned with fierce determination. "Which means we make our own exit."

He grabbed my hand, pulling me away from the living area toward his private home office at the far end of the penthouse. As the heavy steel doors of the elevator foyer finally gave way with a deafening screech of tortured metal, the sound of heavy combat boots flooded across the hardwood floors.

"They're in!" someone shouted in the distance. "Sweep the perimeter! Find Cole and the girl! Alive if possible, but secure the drives!"

Harrison shoved me into his office, slamming the heavy mahogany door shut and dropping a steel security bar across the brackets just as the first rounds of automatic gunfire chewed through the wood. Splinters exploded into the air like lethal confetti.

"Get under the desk!" Harrison ordered, raising his pistol toward the ruined doorway.

"I'm not leaving you!" I yelled over the deafening rattle of gunfire.

"Claire, listen to me!" Harrison shouted, his gray eyes locking onto mine with an intensity that burned through the chaos. "In the bottom drawer of this desk is a satellite uplink transmitter wired directly to federal marshals. If I don't make it out of this room, you press that red button and you run for the emergency roof hatch. Do you understand me?!"

Before I could answer, the door frame shattered completely under the impact of a heavy breaching charge.

Smoke, dust, and blinding white flashbang grenades flooded the office.

The world dissolved into a deafening roar of fire, glass, and screams.
