Chapter 4 - The Paper Trail of TreasonThe silence in the boardroom was so absolute you could hear the faint hum of the overhead ventilation system.

Arthur Sterling stared down at the documents resting on the mahogany table as if they were venomous snakes. For a moment, his face drained of all color, the arrogant smirk completely replaced by the primal panic of a cornered predator.
"This is absurd," Arthur finally stammered, slamming his palm onto the table and standing up to his full, imposing height. "Thomas Parker signed away his equity release waiver back in 2008 during corporate restructuring! His shares were liquidated, absorbed, and redistributed years ago. You have no legal standing here, young lady. Security!"
He looked toward the doorway, expecting building guards to rush in and drag us out.
Instead, the double doors swung open to reveal Tobias Vance, Harrison’s chief legal counsel—a man whose reputation as a corporate shark was legendary across the entire tech sector. Tobias walked in carrying a heavy, leather-bound accordion folder, flanked not by ordinary building security, but by two federal marshals in plainclothes.
"Don't bother calling security, Arthur," Tobias said smoothly, his voice dripping with icy amusement as he distributed certified copies of federal audit reports to every board member present. "Because the United States Attorney's Office has already secured federal warrants for wire fraud, corporate forgery, and securities manipulation regarding those very same 2008 waiver documents."
The color drained from multiple faces around the table. Several board members frantically flipped open the folders Tobias had provided, their eyes darting across bank routing numbers, shell corporation ledgers, and forged signatures dating back nearly twenty years.
"What is this?" a nervous female board member squeaked, her hands trembling as she held up a printed financial wire transfer. "Arthur... you told us those buyout signatures were clean!"
"They were forged," I said, stepping closer to Arthur, my voice dropping into a cold, steady register that made him flinch. "My father never signed a release waiver. You and your co-conspirators fabricated those documents, forced him out while my mother was dying in a hospital bed, and spent two decades hiding behind corporate shell companies to siphon dividends that belonged to my family."
Arthur’s face twisted into an ugly, snarling mask of fury. "You arrogant little nobody! You think a bunch of dusty paper and a vengeful CEO can take down a multi-billion-dollar enterprise? We built this company while your father was crying over medical bills!"
"No, Arthur," Harrison spoke up for the first time, his voice a low, terrifying rumble as he stepped forward to stand right beside me. "We built the foundation. You just spent twenty years trying to steal the roof."
Harrison turned his gaze to the remaining terrified board members, who were now frantically pushing their chairs back from the table, desperately trying to distance themselves from Sterling.
"The board's emergency restructuring vote is officially null and void," Harrison announced, his authority absolute and unquestionable. "Furthermore, under Section 9 of the original partnership charter, all voting rights and equity shares illegally seized from Thomas Parker are hereby fully restored to his legal heir, Claire Parker. Effective immediately."
Arthur lunged forward, grabbing his briefcase with shaking hands. "You can't do this! I'm calling my lawyers—"
"Your lawyers are currently busy packing up your office on the forty-second floor," Tobias interrupted with a grim smile. "Federal marshals, if you please."
The two plainclothes federal agents stepped forward, taking Arthur firmly by both arms as he began to scream obscenities, kicking and thrashing like a spoiled child caught stealing from a candy store. As they hauled him out of the boardroom, the heavy glass doors closed behind them, muffling his frantic threats into absolute silence.
I exhaled slowly, a tremor finally breaking through the armor of my composure.

Harrison glanced down at me, his eyes softening instantly. Without a word of hesitation, he reached out and gently took my hand, his fingers lacing tightly through mine in front of the stunned, silent board of directors.
"Meeting adjourned," Harrison said quietly.
