Chapter 7 - The Bright HorizonThe autumn leaves outside the window drifted gently across the manicured lawns of the Greenwich estate, turning a brilliant shade of amber and gold under the afternoon sun.

I walked back to my desk, picked up a pen, and signed off on the final funding approval for three new domestic abuse shelters across the tri-state area.
My phone buzzed softly on the corner of the desk.
It was a text from my mother:
“Dinner tonight at 7? I’m making your favorite roast chicken. And don't work too late, sweetheart—you’ve already changed the world for the better today.”
I smiled, typing a quick reply:
“I wouldn't miss it for the world, Mom. See you at seven.”
I locked my computer, grabbed my coat from the rack, and walked out of my office, turning off the desk lamp behind me. The shadows of the past were completely gone, swept away by the bright, unyielding light of a future I had built with my own hands, my own mind, and my own unbreakable strength.
