Chapter 6 - The Siege of the Blackwood EstateThree days later, the iron gates of the Blackwood estate swung open to welcome a black Mercedes SUV gliding smoothly up the long, fountain-lined driveway.

Inside, Amelia looked out the tinted window at the sprawling limestone mansion. The sprawling lawns were just as manicured, the classical statues just as imposing, but the heavy, oppressive dread that had choked her out four years ago was gone.
Because this time, she wasn't sneaking away in the dark.
She walked up the grand stone steps with her head held high, holding Julian by the right hand while Adrian carried Leo on his broad shoulders, the little boy laughing as he tugged playfully at his father’s dark hair.
As they stepped through the massive front doors into the foyer, Amelia stopped.
There, resting on the exact same marble table where she had left her diamond engagement ring four years ago, was a crystal vase filled not with white roses, but with wild crimson peonies—her absolute favorite flower.
Beside the vase sat the original platinum ring, cleaned and polished to a blinding perfection, resting on a handwritten note in Adrian’s bold, slashing handwriting: To be worn by the true queen of this house.
“Adrian—” Amelia began, her voice catching in her throat.
Before she could finish, Adrian stepped up behind her, wrapping his strong, warm arms around her waist and pulling her flush against his chest. He buried his face in the crook of her neck, his breath warm and steady against her skin.
“I had the entire upper hallway remodeled,” Adrian murmured against her ear, his voice low and fierce. “The guest wing where that woman stayed? I had the walls torn down. It’s a nursery now. A double nursery. Bulletproof glass, private security, and soundproof insulation so nobody will ever, ever disturb our family again.”
Amelia turned around in his embrace, looking up into his dark, intense eyes. The lingering fear that had haunted her for years finally dissolved into nothingness, replaced by a profound, radiant certainty.
“You’re entirely insane, you know that?” she whispered, a soft smile touching her lips.
“Only for you,” Adrian replied without a hint of hesitation.
He reached down, picked up the platinum ring from the marble table, and slid it back onto her left ring finger where it belonged. It fit as perfectly as it had the day he first proposed in Chicago—only this time, it didn't feel like a shackle.
It felt like a crown.

Upstairs, the sound of laughter echoed down the grand staircase as Julian and Leo chased a golden retriever puppy across the landing, their bright, joyful noise filling every dark corner of the ancient estate.
The ghosts of the past were dead and buried. The empire had a new heart, and the wolves outside the gates no longer mattered.
