Chapter 4 - Shadows in the Geneva ClinicTwo weeks after the federal raid on Sterling Global Hospitality, the corporate fallout had sent shockwaves through the global hospitality industry. Blackthorn Capital officially stepped in to restructure the debt, injecting emergency capital to save the thousands of innocent hotel workers, chefs, and administrative staff whose livelihoods had been jeopardized by Victoria’s embezzlement scheme.

Julian spent his days in courtrooms and boardrooms, cooperating fully with federal prosecutors and testifying against the network of corrupt executives and bribed physicians who had enabled his sister’s crimes.
Meanwhile, my assignment took me across the Atlantic to the snowy, picturesque peaks of Geneva, Switzerland.
The private medical facility nestled on the outskirts of the city looked more like a luxury alpine resort than a recovery clinic. But beneath its polished exterior lay the dark reality of institutional abuse.
Accompanied by two Swiss federal investigators and a senior medical magistrate, I walked down the quiet, sterile hallway of the executive care wing until we stopped outside Suite 402.
The door opened smoothly, revealing a spacious, sunlit room overlooking the snow-capped Alps. Sitting by the window in a comfortable leather armchair was an elderly man with silver hair and sharp, intelligent blue eyes that mirrored Julian’s.
Arthur Sterling—the former patriarch of the empire, presumed dead or permanently incapacitated by his niece—turned his head as we entered.
"Miss Vance," Arthur said, his voice raspy from years of forced disuse, but carrying an unmistakable dignity and strength. "I was wondering when you would return."
I walked over, pulling up a chair and sitting beside him. "It took a little longer than expected, Mr. Sterling. We had to make sure the legal framework was airtight before we made our move in Chicago."
Arthur offered a faint, tired smile. "Victoria always underestimated people who worked for their living. She thought because she had money, she owned the air everyone else breathed. Did she finally get what was coming to her?"
"Federal detention facility in Indiana, awaiting trial on twelve felony counts," I replied smoothly. "And her co-conspirators in this clinic have already been stripped of their medical licenses and placed under arrest."
Arthur let out a long, deep sigh of relief, closing his eyes as decades of stress and captivity seemed to lift from his frail frame. "Thank you. Not just for me... but for saving the company my father built. Julian... how is my nephew holding up?"
"He's carrying a heavy load," I answered honestly. "He blames himself for trusting her. But he’s doing the right thing. He’s cleaning house, restructuring the board, and making sure the victims of her embezzlement are fully compensated."

Arthur opened his eyes, reaching out with a trembling hand to pat my wrist. "He was always a good boy. Too trusting, perhaps... much like his father. But he found someone strong enough to anchor him. Don't let him give up, Clara."
"I don't plan to," I said softly.
