Chapter 7 - The Empire of GlassI didn't run. I didn't scream. I stood up slowly from the mahogany desk, my eyes locked onto his with a cold, unforgiving hatred that burned hotter than any fear I had ever felt in my life.

“You lied to me,” I said, my voice trembling with suppressed rage. “Every single second of my life for the past five years was scripted by you. My mother’s illness, my college debt, my job at the hotel… it was all a trap.”
Dominic stopped three feet away from me. His chest heaved, and for the first time since I had met him, his impenetrable facade cracked, revealing raw, desperate panic beneath the surface.
“It wasn't a trap, Elena,” Dominic pleaded, taking a step forward, his hands reaching out toward me. “It was protection. Your father abandoned you and left you drowning in loan shark debt. I stepped in and made sure you survived.”
“You didn't save me—you bought me!” I screamed, stepping back, throwing my hands up in disgust. “You played God with my life so I would have no choice, no freedom, and no independence! You engineered an assassination attempt just to force me into a marriage I never asked for!”
“No!” Dominic roared, his voice shaking the crystal decanter on the nearby table. He closed the distance between us instantly, his large hands grabbing my shoulders with an iron grip. “I never planned the shooting! Costa acted on his own accord—when those bullets flew at you, I thought I was going to lose my mind! Everything else… yes, I set the board. I wanted you close. I wanted you safe. But I never wanted you to look at me with hate in your eyes.”
“Then let me go,” I whispered, looking straight into his dark, tortured eyes.
Dominic froze. The grip on my shoulders tightened until it bruised.
“No,” he said, his voice dropping into a harsh, absolute vow. “I will give you an empire. I will give you wealth, safety, and a kingdom where nobody can ever touch you. But I will never, ever let you walk out of my life.”
“Then you’re keeping a ghost,” I replied coldly.
The silence that fell over the bedroom was heavier than death. Dominic stared at me, realizing with agonizing clarity that while he had successfully trapped my body inside his fortress, he had permanently shattered the one thing he had spent five years trying to win: my heart.
Two years later, the Italian marble of the Rossi estate gleamed brighter than ever.
From the outside, we were the most powerful, untouchable dynasty in New York. We ruled the shipping ports, controlled the political elite, and lived in unmatched luxury.
I wore the diamonds. I walked through the halls like a queen. I managed the philanthropic foundations with cold, flawless precision.

And Dominic watched me from a distance, giving me every freedom, every luxury, and every ounce of power I demanded—while living in the silent, self-imposed hell of a man who realized that true love cannot be engineered, bought, or locked behind an iron gate.
We were married by law, bound by blood, and trapped in an empire of glass. And as I looked out over the courtyard from my third-floor window, watching Dominic stand alone in the rain, I knew we would both spend the rest of our lives paying the price for the lies that built our home.
