Chapter 7 - The Horizon AheadSix months later, the courtroom trial of Garrett Corbin and Penelope Vance concluded with swift and absolute finality.

Surrounded by overwhelming forensic evidence, financial wire traces, and co-conspirator testimonies, the federal judge sentenced Garrett to two consecutive life terms without the possibility of parole for corporate conspiracy, premeditated attempted murder, and the orchestrating of multi-state financial fraud. Penelope received a fifteen-year sentence for her active participation in the embezzlement and concealment of capital assets.

The estate in Savannah Creek was sold, the proceeds placed into a charitable foundation dedicated to supporting families affected by corporate corruption and maritime safety advocacy.

Tobias and I moved back into the historic family home overlooking the Baltimore harbor—a house filled with light, laughter, and the steady hum of a thriving legacy.

On a clear Saturday evening, I stood on the wraparound porch, holding a warm mug of herbal tea—pure, untainted, and made entirely by my own hands. The sun was setting over the water, painting the sky in brilliant shades of gold, amber, and deep violet.

Tobias walked out onto the porch, stepping firmly and steadily, carrying two glasses of iced lemonade. He handed me one and leaned against the railing beside me.

"Penny for your thoughts," he said quietly.

I looked out across the harbor, watching the lights of the shipyard blink against the approaching dusk.

"I was just thinking about how fragile life is," I said softly, taking a sip of my tea. "How easy it is to trust the wrong person, and how terrifying it is to realize you've been living inside a lie."

"And yet," Tobias smiled, clinking his glass against mine, "we made it out of the water."

"We did," I agreed, looking down at the golden signet ring shining on my finger. "And this time, nobody is ever going to sink us again."

We stood side by side as the first stars appeared in the night sky, ready for whatever horizon came next, anchored by a bond that no betrayal could ever break.
