Chapter 7 - The Dawn of a New EmpireSix months later, the Staten Island mansion looked entirely different.

The heavy iron gates were still secure, and the guards still patrolled the perimeter, but the suffocating darkness that had once choked the halls was gone. Sunlight poured through every window, reflecting off polished mahogany and blooming indoor gardens.

Inside the master study, I sat behind my desk, signing off on the final legal transfers for the newly expanded Vance-Corso logistics syndicate—a unified partnership that made us untouchable across the entire eastern seaboard.

The door opened without a knock.

Fay walked in, holding a steaming mug of coffee and a fresh stack of university transcripts. She was wearing a simple, elegant emerald-green dress, her hair falling softly around her shoulders. She had officially graduated with honors from her finance degree program the week before, and now managed the legitimate charitable foundations attached to our business empire.

She placed the coffee mug beside my keyboard, leaning over to kiss my cheek.

"You've been staring at those spreadsheets for three hours, Dominic," she scolded gently, though a warm smile played across her lips. "Take a break. Carmine is waiting outside with the car. We promised we'd visit the downtown shelter before lunch."

I looked up, catching her gaze. The old fear, the bitter isolation, the paralyzing anger—they were all gone, replaced by something far more powerful than any criminal empire I had ever built.

I reached out, taking her hand in mine, running my thumb gently over her knuckles where the bruises from the Brighton Beach zip-ties had long since faded.

"You know," I murmured, a faint smirk touching my lips, "when you walked into my room six months ago with that eviction notice, I thought you were just another annoyance to chase away."

Fay raised an eyebrow, crossing her arms. "And instead?"

"Instead," I pulled her gently closer until she rested against my lap, "you were the best thing that ever happened to me."

Fay smiled, leaning down to press her lips softly against mine.

"Come on, Boss," she whispered against my mouth. "Let's go show the city how a real team operates."

I wheeled around the desk, pulling her close as we headed out toward the double doors together, stepping forward into a future where I didn't need my legs to stand tall—because I had finally found someone worth fighting for.
