Chapter 6 - The Confession in the LibraryThe carriage house was warm and dark when we returned, save for the crackling fire casting long, dancing shadows across the exposed brick walls.

I kicked off my designer heels, letting out a long, shuddering sigh of pure exhaustion and exhilaration, and sank into the cream-colored sofa.
Giovanni walked over to the mahogany bar cart, poured two glasses of aged bourbon, and handed one to me before sitting down beside me on the velvet cushions.
“It’s over,” I said quietly, swirling the golden liquid in my glass. “The indictments are public. The forensic audits are sealed. Patricia and Celeste are facing twenty years for corporate fraud and obstruction of justice. The house... my father’s house... is back in my name.”
“I told you I’d burn their world down,” Giovanni said, leaning back and resting one arm along the back of the sofa, his fingers brushing lightly against my shoulder.
“You did more than that,” I turned to look at him, my heart pounding against my ribs with a different kind of terror now—not fear of the dark, but fear of what came next. “You gave me back my life, Giovanni. But I have to ask... why? Why go to such lengths for a girl you barely knew?”
Giovanni’s expression softened. The cold, ruthless billionaire who had terrified the New York elite vanished entirely, replaced by a man whose eyes held a quiet, aching vulnerability.
“I told you I saw your father before he died,” Giovanni said softly. “He asked me to protect you. But he didn't have to ask twice, Willow.”
He reached out, his warm fingers gently cupping my chin, tilting my face up toward his.
“From the moment I saw you standing in that restaurant months ago—long before that charity gala—you were carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders, and yet you still had the courage to look people in the eye without breaking,” Giovanni murmured, his thumb brushing slowly across my cheekbone. “I didn’t just protect you because I made a promise to your father. I protected you because the moment I noticed you, I knew I would never be able to look at anyone else again.”
My breath hitched. The space between us dissolved until there was nothing left except the heat of his skin and the unspoken promise in his eyes.

When his lips met mine, it wasn't a sudden, violent storm. It was a slow, deliberate collision—deep, absolute, and filled with all the safety and certainty I had spent my entire life searching for.
His arms wrapped around me, pulling me flush against his chest, lifting me out of the shadows of my past and into a future I finally owned.
