Chapter 5 - The Sanctuary in FlorenceThree weeks passed like a quiet, miraculous spring after a long, dark winter storm.

The Rossi estate near Rome was permanently closed, its dark walls sealed and converted into an international charity sanctuary dedicated to supporting survivors of domestic captivity and human trafficking.

Meanwhile, two hundred miles north, in the sunlit hills of Tuscany overlooking the golden rooftops of Florence, sat our new private sanctuary—a breathtaking, four-acre stone villa surrounded by olive groves, blooming white roses, and peaceful garden terraces.

The property was guarded by twelve of Marco's most loyal operators, ensuring that not a single shadow could ever approach our family again.

Inside the sunlit master suite, the high glass doors were pushed open to let in the warm, sweet afternoon breeze.

Grace sat in a comfortable velvet armchair near the balcony, wearing a soft cream cashmere sweater and leggings, her dark hair falling in healthy, glossy waves over her shoulders. Her skin had returned to its natural, radiant glow, her hazel eyes bright, beautiful, and filled with deep, weightless peace.

In her arms, she held three-week-old Leo, nursing him gently while humming a sweet Italian lullaby.

I stepped into the room carrying a silver tray holding two warm cups of fresh chamomile tea and a plate of warm pastries.

I set the tray flat on the side table, dropping onto one knee beside her chair, wrapping my broad arm around her waist, resting my cheek gently against her shoulder.

Grace looked down at me, a soft, radiant smile illuminating her face as she reached out her free hand to run her fingers gently through my dark hair.

"How is our little prince doing?" I asked softly, looking at my son's chubby, peaceful face.

"He just finished his meal, Papa," Grace smiled warmly, her voice smooth and sweet as honey. "He has your exact appetite."

I let out a low, genuine laugh—a sound that filled my entire heart with weightless, absolute joy—and pressed a sweet, lingering kiss against Grace's lips.

"How are you feeling, my love?" I asked gently, looking deep into her hazel eyes.

"I feel safe, Matteo," Grace answered softly, resting her forehead against mine. "For six months, I lived in a dark room believing I was alone. Today... I know that your love is an iron fortress that no one can ever break."
