Chapter 4 - The Unmasking of EleanorEleanor took two hurried steps forward, her face contorted in a wild mixture of panic, embarrassment, and rage.

"Matteo! Hand that child to his nurse immediately!" Eleanor demanded, her voice rising into a sharp, shrill pitch. "You are being delusional! That girl was unfit to be a mother! She was unstable! She signed the surrender documents herself!"
"She scratched her warning into the plaster wall of the west wing with her own fingernails, Mother," I replied, my voice dropping into a register so dark and cold that the chandeliers above us seemed to rattle softly.
I handed little Leo gently to Marco, who stood beside me with a soft wool blanket, securing my son before stepping back toward the guarded threshold.
I turned my full attention onto my mother and Uncle Dominic.
Arthur Sterling—my family's senior litigation attorney, who had arrived with Marco's team—stepped through the broken doorway, holding a thick leather folder.
"Arthur...?" Dominic stammered out, his hands trembling violently. "What are you doing here?!"
"Executing the primary asset freeze on the Rossi Family Trust, Dominic," Arthur announced cleanly, his baritone echoing through the quiet hall. "Ten minutes ago, the Federal Criminal Court in Rome unsealed a twenty-eight-count indictment charging Eleanor Rossi and Dominic Rossi with grand embezzlement, human trafficking, and attempted premeditated homicide."
Eleanor’s jaw dropped open in total, horror-stricken shock. "What?! You cannot freeze my trust! I am the matriarch of this family!"
"You were the matriarch until five minutes ago, Mother," I revealed, pulling a gold keycard from my coat pocket, tossing it flat onto the dining table. "My father's master decree explicitly stated that if you ever acted against the primary safety of my wife or children, your voting shares, your estates, and your private allowances would be forfeited completely to Grace."
Dominic stumbled back against the wall, his bloodshot eyes bulging out of his head. "Eleanor... you told me Matteo didn't have the master key! You told me he was trapped in Europe!"
"He isn't trapped anywhere, Dominic," I said softly, taking two slow steps toward my uncle.
Before Dominic could make a move toward his waist, my operators moved smoothly, slamming his broad frame flat against the marble floor, driving heavy steel handcuffs around his wrists.
Eleanor stood near her high-backed chair, her white silk suit stained red, her silver hair disheveled, staring at me with a look of pure, agonizing ruin as she realized that her thirty-year reign over the Rossi empire had been completely erased in less than ten minutes.
"Matteo..." Eleanor whimpered, her voice finally breaking into pathetic, desperate squeaks. "I am your mother... I did it for the family... I did it for you!"
I looked at her with zero anger, zero hatred, and zero regret.

"My family is sitting in a medical van at the north gate, Eleanor," I whispered softly. "You are just a stranger who used to share my name."
Two female officers from the Italian State Police stepped into the room, placing steel cuffs around Eleanor’s wrists, escorting her crying, broken body out into the freezing rain toward the transport sedans.
