Chapter 4 - The Freeze at Moretti EnterprisesBy 2:00 PM that afternoon, while the family court ruling sent shockwaves through the city, the financial foundation of Vincent Moretti’s corporate empire began to fracture into total ruin.

Inside the top-floor executive suite of Moretti Real Estate & Shipping on Michigan Avenue, an emergency board of directors meeting had been convened.

Sixteen senior board members, casino partners, and international shipping directors sat around a long mahogany table, shouting frantically over each other while reviewing emergency stock crash notifications.

The heavy double glass doors of the suite were pushed open.

Walking down the center aisle, flanked by Marcus Vance, two federal financial receivers, and Arthur Sterling, was me.

I wore my cream wool coat, my dark hair neatly styled, my posture fluid, calm, and sovereign.

The sixteen board members stood up instantly, bowing their heads in quiet respect as I took my seat at the head of the mahogany table—the chairman’s seat that Vincent had occupied for ten years.

Marcus Vance stepped forward, opening his binder, projecting certified corporate chancery decrees onto the eighty-foot media wall.

"Ladies and gentlemen of the board," Marcus announced cleanly, "as of one o'clock this afternoon, the Cook County Chancery Court has confirmed the full, unconditional execution of Mrs. Claire Moretti’s primary marital property equity recovery."

The shipping directors pulled out their tablets, reading the live court filings in shock.

"Prior to her marriage seven years ago," Marcus explained smoothly, "Claire Moretti's trust funded thirty-five percent of the underlying land leases for Moretti Logistics' primary shipping terminals at Pier 4. Under Section 12 of the master charter, following the judicial finding of spousal abandonment, all voting proxies revert instantly and permanently to Mrs. Moretti."

The board members looked at me, their faces filled with awe and immediate submission.

"Madam Chairman," the lead shipping representative spoke up politely, "what are your orders regarding Mr. Moretti’s executive authority?"

I looked at the panoramic window overlooking the rain-swept skyline of Chicago, setting my hands flat against the mahogany table.

"Revoke Vincent Moretti’s executive signing power effective immediately," I commanded cleanly, my voice smooth, quiet, and deadpan. "Freeze his corporate expense accounts, cancel his private jet leases, and transfer thirty million dollars into an irrevocable trust for my daughter, Emma."

The board members didn't hesitate. They picked up their pens, signing the master corporate restructuring decrees within two minutes.

Vincent’s corporate authority was erased. His money was frozen. His legacy belonged entirely to the daughter he had abandoned in an emergency room.
