Chapter 2 - The Audit on the StageThe social and psychological fallout inside the Grand Ballroom detonated with the force of a tactical missile.

Whispers erupted like a roaring fire across every row of two thousand guests:

"My God... look at his eyes... look at that boy's face!"

"That's Claire! The wife he threw out ten years ago!"

"He said on television he never became a father!"

"Victoria told everyone Claire was barren!"

Ethan took three heavy, unsteady steps down the central marble stairs of the stage. His hands were shaking—a sight none of his enforcers or business partners had ever witnessed in twenty years.

"Claire..." Ethan choked out, his deep voice cracking into raw, fractured threads. "Claire... what... who are these children?"

I stopped ten feet from the base of the stage, looking up at the man who had thrown thirty dollars at my feet in a thunderstorm ten years ago while his mother watched with satisfaction.

"Ten years ago, Ethan," I began, my voice smooth, cool, and carrying a razor-sharp clarity that echoed off the high vaulted ceilings, "you stood in the marble foyer of our home, threw thirty dollars onto the floor, and told me I was nothing but a gold digger."

Ethan’s face went paper-white. He swallowed hard, his throat moving as if he were choking on broken glass.

"You told me thirty dollars would get me to the bus station," I continued, my hazel eyes flashing with cold, sovereign fire. "You let your mother tell the press I was barren. And while you were conquering Chicago, building your hotels and shipping lines, I was lying in a charity ward in Boston, undergoing emergency surgery to save our premature twins."

Victoria Sullivan rushed down the stage stairs, her face contorted in frantic, sweating panic, pointing a shaking, diamond-ringed finger at me.

"SHE'S LYING!" Victoria shrieked hysterically. "ETHAN! DON'T LISTEN TO HER! She bought those children from an agency! She had surgery ten years ago to fake a pregnancy! Security! REMOVE THIS WOMAN IMMEDIATELY!"

Lucas Vance stepped forward, opening a leather binder, pulling out certified court documents bound by bright red judicial seals.

"Mrs. Victoria Sullivan," Lucas announced, his voice ringing through the ballroom, "you are hereby served with a Master Subpoena for Felony Document Falsification, Medical Record Theft, and Obstruction of Justice."

Lucas tapped his tablet screen, projecting high-definition digital documents directly onto the ballroom's forty-foot presentation screens—the very screens that five minutes ago had been displaying Ethan's corporate achievements.

The entire room watched in total, speech-bound shock as the unredacted evidence unfolded:

THE FORGED MEDICAL RECORDS: 2016 hospital logs showing Victoria Sullivan paying fifty thousand dollars to Dr. Arthur Vance to falsify Claire’s fertility records and convince Ethan his wife could never bear children.

THE DNA RATIFICATION: Certified Johns Hopkins DNA match certificates establishing 99.99% paternity between Ethan Sullivan, Noah Sullivan, and Sophie Sullivan.

THE AUDIT TRAIL: Direct wire transfers showing Victoria transferring corporate funds into off-ledger accounts to keep Claire’s location in Boston hidden from Ethan's security detail.

Ethan turned his head slowly toward his mother. His storm-gray eyes weren't just angry; they were filled with an apocalyptic, soul-crushing rage that made Victoria stumble backward into her legal team.

"Mother..." Ethan whispered, his voice vibrating through the speakers like a death knell. "Did you know she was pregnant when I threw her out?"

Victoria whimpered, clutching her pearls, unable to form a single word.
