Chapter 6 - The Trial of Daniel MillerTwo weeks later, the final criminal sentencing took place inside Courtroom 4B of the State Supreme Court in downtown Chicago.

The public gallery was packed with journalists, high-society figures, and media representatives who had gathered to watch the spectacular downfall of the man who had attempted to destroy the heiress of Hale Global Capital.
Daniel Miller sat at the defense table wearing a dark orange inmate jumpsuit, his posture bowed, his hands chained, his eyes hollowed out by fear and exhaustion. Beside him sat Vanessa Vance, awaiting secondary sentencing as an accessory to corporate fraud.
Sitting at the prosecution table, flanked by my father and Jonathan Vance, was me.
I wore an immaculate floor-length ivory suit that celebrated every line of my unbroken strength. My dark hair fell in glossy waves over my shoulders, my hazel eyes shining with absolute, unshakeable victory.
The honorable Judge Marcus Vance slammed his heavy wooden gavel flat onto the block.
SLAM!
"We are here for final sentencing in the matter of the State v. Daniel Miller," Judge Vance declared, his voice echoing off the high oak paneling like thunder. "The defendant has been found guilty on all counts: Aggravated Domestic Assault, Felony Battery, Grand Larceny, Corporate Embezzlement, and Tax Fraud."
Daniel squeezed his eyes shut, a low, agonizing groan breaking from his throat.
"You treated a dedicated, loving wife with grotesque, remorseless cruelty," Judge Vance continued flatly. "You used violence and financial theft to satisfy your own grotesque arrogance. This court finds zero mitigating circumstances in your favor."
The judge raised his pen, signing the master sentencing documents:
DANIEL MILLER: Sentenced to twenty-eight years in a state maximum-security penitentiary without the possibility of early parole, alongside total financial forfeiture of all personal and corporate assets.
VANESSA VANCE: Sentenced to eight years in a state facility for corporate conspiracy, wire fraud, and accessory to grand larceny.
As court bailiffs stood up to drag Daniel toward the side holding cell in heavy chains, he turned his bloodshot, weeping eyes toward me, reaching out his hands in a final, pathetic plea.

"VICTORIA!" Daniel wept, his voice cracking into raw, pathetic screams that echoed down the hallway. "FORGIVE ME! VICTORIA!"
I looked at him standing in chains with quiet, weightless peace, then slowly turned my back on him forever.
