Chapter 6 - The Festival of the Golden CradleIn late September 2027, one year after that horrifying afternoon in our home, the grand auditorium of the Plaza Hotel in Chicago was packed to absolute capacity for the inaugural Leo Vance-Moretti Heritage & Maternal Health Gala.

Over five hundred prominent business leaders, supreme court justices, federal prosecutors, and high-society matriarchs gathered beneath sparkling crystal chandeliers.

Standing at the main presentation podium, wearing a dark bespoke charcoal tuxedo, his broad six-foot-four frame squared, his handsome face glowing with deep, quiet pride, holding ten-month-old baby Leo in his arms, was Vincent Moretti.

Beside him stood Donna Claire Bennett-Vance, looking breathtaking in a floor-length dark emerald silk evening gown that celebrated her graceful figure, her hazel eyes glowing with complete happiness.

Around my neck hung my late mother’s restored gold signet pendant.

Vincent adjusted the microphone, his deep, resonant baritone echoing cleanly through the high-fidelity speakers:

"One year ago, I made the most shameful, monstrous mistake of my life, raising my hand against my wife and walking away while she bled on my floor," Vincent announced to the silent room, his storm-gray eyes shining with genuine, unshakeable emotion as he looked down at me and baby Leo. "And on that night, the bravest woman I know protected our unborn child, shattered a ten-year conspiracy, claimed her sovereign birthright, and brought my entire world back to the light."

Vincent held his champagne glass high under the glittering lights.

"To Claire!" the entire room erupted into a warm, unanimous standing ovation, five hundred crystal glasses clinking together under the open sky.
